Well we touched down in Sydney early this morning. Previously I decided the best thing to do was to book into a hotel at the airport thinking they would let us check in early. Well number one plan down the pan as they say we cannot check in until 2pm. This is not good as we feel like shit and it is only 7am.
So bags left at reception and off into Sydney we go. I have decided (yes you are probably saying what have you decided oh wise one, ha ha) that as we are hiring a car for approximately 4 weeks and would need a sat nav to help negotiate Oz it would be cheaper to buy one then hiring one at $17 a day - so off on a mission we go.
In my infinite wisdom as we are at the airport we catch the airport train into the city - I am having to remember Oz is so expensive and not keep saying to people when I ask them how much to!!! not to shout HOW MUCH and can you do a discount. When they say sorry this is the price then I throw in
"do you have concessions for over 60s" (Please note this is not for me, it is Mike - I am still a spring chicken well someone has to think this, ha ha).
Well Sydney harbour is our first destination from the train and it is so quiet - well it would be at only 7.30 am. However, it is so nice with no one there - so we stop for a coffee and I can honestly say that this time seeing the Opera House I thought it was beautiful not like the first time I ever saw it, when I thought is that it!
So we walk along George Street to try to find a cheap electrical shop and lo and behold we find one where we purchased a basic tom tom for $78 - bargain or what?
Whilst looking for the electrical shop in the searing heat, what could I see, Christmas Trees and Christmas decorations. It felt WRONG, WRONG, WRONG. Then looking at my Facebook page Sylvia who is a friend in Canada puts pics of her family going for the family Christmas Tree in the snow - we were part of her extended family last year on the Christmas Tree cutting down trip - I must admit it made me want some snow. I hope I can get into this summer xmas spirit. OMG just seen the Ozzie Aldi advert - you will never believe it a bunch of surfing santas NO NO NO.
We had a further walk around The Rocks area of Sydney and got a spot of breakfast and we are now back in the hotel to get a bit of sleep before our long drive up to Mullaway tomorrow which is approximately 7 hours drive and that is if you know your way - lets hope tom tom is working well.
I think we will probably pop back down into Sydney this evening once we have had a bit of a chill out.
