Andy & me
Saturday night - In the nice bar overlooking the beach When I got to the airport at 8.15pm Andy's flight had landed early, I thought he would still be going through Customs as it took Claire & I forever when we arrived. I could not believe it when I walked into the Arrivals Hall & he was already sat there waiting, I felt really bad, he had even brought me some perfume! It was really nice but also strange to see him. We went back to our apartment & had Champagne & Strawberries & watched TV & talked; it was so nice to be able to have a conversation face to face.
On Friday we got up, had breakfast, got ready & said a quick hello to Claire & Mike before heading to Darling Harbour to the Aquarium which was great. We had a late lunch sat in the sunshine, overlooking the harbour, I could not believe the change in weather from a few days before it was a beautiful blue sky. We walked up to Sydney Obersvatory & watched boats in the harbour whilst the sunset & the sky went from dusk to dark. I think the harbour is just as magical at night as it is in the
day, if not more so. We headed back to our apartment & drank wine & gin all night.
On Saturday we got up late, as we stayed up late drinking the night before, had breakfast & walked into Bondi, we had a look in some of the shops & walked along the beach & had a drink in a lovely bar overlooking the beach & the sea. We went on the internet for a bit & had a snack when we got back to our apartment. In the evening we were going to go for an Indian meal with Mike & Claire but Michael wasn't very well so Andy & I went for a meal, just the two of us, it was nice, we took along our own wine & then afterwards we went to the bar we had been in that afternoon.
Claire had said she'd come & meet us later & she brought Michael with her as he was feeling a bit better. We spent the evening drinking cocktails, wine & vodka, a word away from the backpacking life I was used too! It started to rain very heavily when we left the bar & got
a taxi back home, Mike & Claire had left a bit earlier.
When we woke up on Sunday & the rain was still unbelievable so we had a lie in, it stopped so we got up & headed to the Opera House where we booked a guided tour, it was really good, we got the full history of the building & about its architecture & even got to go in the rooms & hear people singing & rehearsing. Afterwards we sat outside & had hotdogs whilst it went dark, we got some great photos of the Harbour Bridge & Opera House at night. Andy & I went to the cinema on the way home to see Shrek 3 & then had a quiet night in preparation for our Bridge Climb the following day.
On Monday we headed into the city with Claire & Mike & did our Bridge climb, (It was my birthday present to Andy). Our guide was great & told us about the harbour & the building of the bridge, what famous people had climbed the bridge & pointed out lots of points of interest around the city from the top of the bridge. The weather
stayed dry & the sun even came out at times! Afterwards we went to the Australia Hotel for a snack & some beers, (I had a honey based beer).
We went back home & got ready & then went into the city with Michael & Claire for a Chinese meal. It was raining loads & the place we had planned to eat at on Circular Quay was closed so we got a taxi to Chinatown, then after our meal another taxi from Chinatown to Kings Cross. We went round several bars & the one served cocktails out of tea pots into little shot glasses, it was really good fun. We went home & Michael & Claire came to ours for another drink & then Andy & I somehow managed to stay up drinking gin & wine, I think we got to bed at 7am!
Tuesday we had planned to go to the Zoo but when we woke up it was pouring down with rain so we slept in & then later went to Bondi Junction & had a look round the shops. Andy brought me a T-shirt & we had afternoon tea. In the evening Michael & Claire
came round ours & we made our way into the city to meet Richmond in Starbar. It was so nice to see him again & for him to meet Michael & Andy. Rich had been drinking since 6pm & was a little tipsy when we arrived & a lot tipsy by the time we left him in an Irish bar called Scruffy Murphy's. Michael, Claire, Andy & I went to Kings Cross to the bar where they serve the cocktails from teapots, it was another late night but good fun.
On Wednesday by some miracle after our late night, Andy & I made our way to Circular Quay & got the ferry to Manly, a town north of Sydney. We had the best day, on the way there on the ferry we ended up crying with laughter over something that wasn't even that funny. We looked around the shops, had a candle lit dinner for two in an amazing restaurant called White Water, in front of an open fire, it was very romantic & the food was fantastic. Afterwards we went for a walk & sat on the beach watching the surfers. We had a coffee on the way
back to the ferry & Andy brought me a cuddly baby wombat.
When we got home we just relaxed & then Andy cooked a chicken stir fry, egg fried rice & his own little dessert that he surprised me with, Tim Tam surprise, it was very nice & so thoughtful! We laughed so much the whole day it was great.
On Thursday we got all our stuff packed up & had breakfast. Mom's cousin Tony was picking us up so we walked into Bondi to get a bottle of wine to take as a thank you & some stamps for Andy's postcards. Tony took Andy & I on a grand tour of Sydney, first we went around the city centre & then he took us to the Fish market for Fish & Chips & some wine. He drove us out to see his boat but unfortunately because of the weather forecast of gale force winds we weren't able to go out on it.
We had some amazing views & he stopped to let us look around places we hadn't seen & up to the Northern beaches. We saw lots of famous peoples houses & Tony even took us
to Palm Beach also known as Summer Bay from Home & Away. Even though it was raining I made Andy pose with the lifeguard float & had my photo taken by the Surf Club which even had Alf Stewart's name as proprietor on the sign.
We went for a drink at Tony's Yacht club with some lovely views of all the boats in the bay & then went back to his house which had some great views over Pittwater. Dawn cooked a lovely meal, we had a few drinks & I think Tony got a little tipsy. I think we bored Andy with all the Hirrill family history but it was rather funny.
We spent the night at Tony & Dawn's & then on Friday morning, after breakfast, Tony drove us to the airport where we checked in for our flight to Melbourne & met Claire & Michael; Claire had made us some sandwiches which was nice. I felt a bit sad at this point knowing that one week had gone & that in another weeks time I would be saying goodbye to Andy.
I loved Sydney, a lot of people don't like it or say they
prefer Melbourne but I think Andy & I had a great time & did everything we possibly could whilst we were there.
