Goodbye Home
Our hostel for the last 3 months Well well, after 3 and a bit months in Melbourne it was time to leave and it almost felt as if we were leaving home. We had a going away night on Monday at a pub called Pugg Mahones which is a usual monday place to go with the hostel. It was really good, but sad that we would never see any of the buggers in there again.
Anyway we rented the same car that we got for the Great Ocean Road and hired it for 3 days to make the 8 hour drive to Sydney. I think that the time was probably meant for people who were taking a direct route... we managed to drive for about 25 hours because we stopped off practically everywhere on the way.
On the way out of Melbourne we stopped of at a street called Pin Oak Court, or Ramsey Street as its called in Neighbours... It was a complete waste of time- probably the least exciting place in the whole world and even Tim who watches it didn't recognise it. It is about 20 metres long and is just normal peoples houses. The only reason we knew we were in the

By the time we finally got out of the outskirts of Melbourne it was about 4ish and we hadn't really planned where we were supposed to be going. We decided on a route while we were driving and ended up in a place called 'Albury-Wodonga' at night. We luckily came across a caravan park with cabins for about the same price as the hostel we had been staying in. It was amazing to have our own house with TV and kitchen, so we cooked a party buffet and got a load of booze and monged in front of the tele all night.
The next day we checked out at 10 and set off for a place called Thredbo which is the biggest skiing resort in Australia. It was a massive detour but we thought it'd be worth it. We got to the start of the National Park called The Snowy Mountains and there were signs everywhere saying that all cars must have snow chains

Freezing
Not really eqipped for the temperaturethe car company said that the car wasn't insured if we wore snow chains but we thought It'd be right so we carried on...
The guy who showed us how to use the chains also pointed out some good places to stop as well as telling us about where the speed cameras were and where to be careful at... very helpful. We stopped in a little park area for dinner and there were wild kangaroos everywhere.... We tried to feed them but apparently they don't eat cheese butties in the wild! Even hopping after then they still weren't falling for it!
We carried on and after the most winding roads I've eevr been on we eventually arrived in the snow. It was amazing seeing it in Australia so we all piled out for a snowball fight; that lasted about 5 minutes before we had to leg it back to the car with pneumonia. It was freezing, and we didn't really have snow-type clothes, for obvious reasons.
Thredbo was a really nice alpine resort with snow blowers making the snow because it wasn't thick enough for sledging.

The Prime Minister
The big cheese in the Australian Parliament houseto a place called Jindabyne where we rented another cabin. This wasn't as nice as the first but there was facilities on the site like a sauna and hot tubs... it was cool coming in out of the snow to get in the sauna... we abused it a little by making it as hot as possible and it was ridiculous.
We carried on the trip the next day and headed out of the mountains to the ACT (Australian Capital Territory) to Canberra where the government is based. It was built because they couldn't decide whether to have government in Melbourne or Sydney so they stuck it in the middle- sensible!
The city looked as though it was planned to look good from everywhere; even the map view of the streets is in patterns and all the roads are symmetrical. They've spent loads of money on keeping the place clean and even the war memorial is spectacular. We went into the parliament building and checked out the house of representatives and the senate which are like

We didn't spend a great amount of time there and headed off for Sydney. I'm not sure if anything interesting happened on this part because I slept the whole way... We arrived in Sydney about 7pm and checked into a hostel for a few days before having a few cheeky goodnight drinks and then going to bed quite early.
