Caroline & Nala
Caroline shows Nala the Hose DAY 48 (Christmas Day)
25th December ( 7 Weeks Today )
Bah Humbug!! Being 45 I didn’t wake with an air of excitement, rushing down stairs to open our prezzies, but instead had to fight the dog for the quilt as my bum was cold, there she was on the top of the bed upside down fast asleep, thankfully she does not snore.
Today was Christmas day, and without wishing to bore you again, we knew it was going to be a non event, but being in Australia, after all those months of dreaming and planning, it was celebration enough, and in the middle of it a heart attack, just to rattle the cage of reality.
Still, here we were in Port Stephens, in this beautiful house, just me and my fantastic Caroline, and whatever the day would bring having Caroline in it I new it was going to be fun.
I took Caroline her Christmas tea, thank god for this wonderful drink, I’m sure It was made in heaven, but not this cup it was just made in the kitchen.
We had made the preparations for our dinner we tried to get it
Caroline & Nala
Nala becomes wary of the hose as traditional as possible, as we couldn’t get reasonable size Kangaroo, that was frozen, we had to make do with a turkey crown. The only thing we could not get were pigs in blankets, and bread sauce which are my absolute favourites. Pork Sausages seem hard to get here so we had to improvise and make our own.
We sat down to our dinner around 2.30, at that time our friends and families would have been catching some Zzzzz’s.
We gave the dog her Christmas Sausage and put it in her bowl.
Later on when we looked out of the front window, I couldn’t believe my eyes, THE DUSTBIN MEN were in the next street emptying the bins, Christ they must have been on Double Bubble, if not more, so we made sure our bin was ready to collect.
I like the traditional Christmas day, prezzies, dinner, sleep, the Queens Speech, then James Bond, wake up then start eating again, but this time it was going to be different. I am so glad we did the house sit, not only to help out some lovely people and give some company to their great dog, but it gave

Not for long.... Nala wants to come in.... us opportunity to have a reasonably settled, normal Christmas. After a great dinner, we put the dog in the truck and took her down to the Mallabula beach to give her a run, hopefully there would not be to many people down there and we could let her run her heart out.
Oh! how wrong we were, the place was pretty busy with loads of families having their Christmas lunch, Australian style and I knew if we let her off the lead there would be trouble. Anyway we had a decent walk and I’m sure she was suitably tired, so much so that the minty ball we got her for her Christmas present didn’t see that much action.
Today we were going to catch up with our families that we were both excited about and we actively looked to see who was on Skype, Shirley and John, Caroline’s Mum and Dad where soon on line and we were engaged in conversation, mind you it was 9.00am UK Time, and 8.00pm New South Wales Time. I also got to speak to my Sister and herkids soon after, with a scheduled conversation with my mum at 11.30am UK GMT.

This is Nala, she wants to come back in the house and finds the screen door shut, so hopes that jumping makes a difference Caroline had brought a cheap bottle of champagne, that we were going to add juice to for Bucks Fizz, it was so rough I was contemplating cleaning the tar off the Patrol with it.
After speaking to my mum it was bed time for the three of us, happy in the knowledge we did our best to have a good Christmas meal and spend it together in the sunshine which we did.
