Entry 1 – 2 September 2015 I have been on the road again for just 2 days and nights, and my first stop was on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River approximately 10 kms east of Narranderra, NSW. This is a little gem of a camp site which has provided me with a welcome chance to stop and gather my thoughts and recharge my energy levels after the stress and hectic pace of life preparing to depart from home and take leave of family and friends. The drive across country once I left the Hume Highway at Gundagai, was simply stunning. After all the rain of recent weeks, Australia’s colours, green and gold, were rich and saturated. The road was lined with wide expanses of canola fields in full bloom interspersed with pasture so green it ... read more

It is holiday time again. For reasons know only to others, I have had requests to write another holiday blog, so this is it. Today is the first day of our pilgrimage to warmer climates. Normally I enjoy winter, but this winter seems to have got the better of me, particularly the last week or so, so the Fraser Coast in Queensland sounds ideal. This years sojourn sees an addition to our entourage. We now have a roof-top tinny, affectionately know as Das Boot (The Boat - suggested by Frank's brother Wally). Eventually it will have a name on it, just like the van will have some colour applied so it doesn't look like a mobile fridge anymore. But hey, it has only been four years, so what's the hurry. After all, there is a wall ... read more

It continued to rain steadily all night and stopped about 8.30am. The ground all around the showground was water logged and sodden but, fortunately, our patch of grass wasn’t too bad. We had also not had any leaks in the slide-out so all Barry’s hard work fixing it has paid off. After checking the up-coming weather on Barry’s phone app, we decided we should be OK to move on. It was clearing up ahead, it seemed. We left Finley and headed towards Jerilderie. The land was very flat but we were getting a bit of head-wind so the ute had to work harder (and gobble more fuel). We also noticed that most of the paddocks all along the road were lying fallow, with just weed-ridden grass growing on it. We thought it was a waste of ... read more

Very little to report today. The morning started with a search to find the boys who were finally found chasing ducks down by the small inlet below our caravan. I will never allow them to sleep outside the van again, they got up early and nicked off. We headed east along the Newell Highway through the most boring countryside around. It may be boring but some of the place names are fantastic. We stopped for lunch at my personal favourite Mulberygong rest stop. Just a truckies pull over, but we had a great sandwich and a cold beer. It was darn hot, lord alone knows how hot, but darn hot. When we got to the Hay Plains at least we didn't see the big watering systems going pumping precious water into the air, such an ineffective ... read more
