IRONFEST...WILD WEST 2018. I used to use a line in bars of "Excuse me is anyone sitting here? I need to get the weight off my feet." Smile of a pretty girl relieved I had not used a sleasy line..."Be my guest."...knowing I was in. I met my wife Denise with sign language inviting her to dance...did it twice before I was in. Years pass and I'm at my second Ironfest at Lithgow in April 2018. Den... Read Full Entry

Great photos
Hi Dave, I love seeing how different photographers take on the same subjects. Your photos are definitely a different style from mine. I love how you have narrowed in on your subjects. It was very enjoyable to spend some time photographing with you, and picking up some tips. I look forward to doing it again.

Great photos
I am so grateful you asked me if I was attending Ironfest this year David thus reminding me to get my act together and go along. April Ironfest will be in my Steampunk wind up cordless telescopic calendar from now on. Was truly a joy to wander with Charmayne and you capturing the thousands of personalities that so kindly were happy to grace our lenses. I've shown many more portraits than I ever have before in this blog...but hey...they deserve the recognition and there were many many more. There's always next year as they say.

Photographer extraordinaire!
wow! I'm so pleased I viewed the entirety of your photos. I felt I had been there myself!

There are some places where a taste is never enough...Ironfest is one such place. I may have displayed a lot of photos of participants in Ironfest Wild West 2018 but there were so many more whose dedication deserved photographs of them to be displayed...oh so many more. Thank you for taking the time to appreciate those that made it this time.

I was the Elf Lord, Glorfindel...from Lord of the Rings
Of course you were! :)

Another time another place my love...you know I was...now some more know I were!

Ironfest Paparazzi...
"Excuse me, I know you don't want to be called paparazzi, can I call you something else?" Yeah, I devised a new word...it's called 'photo-flirt'. Now I know the history how it equates (Dancing Dave + Denise = Ironfest Happy Couple) Yeeeye!!! Is my math right?
4th May 2018

Photo-flirt
Catchy name Tab and acceptable as there was no one that did not consent. Where else in the World would you find that? Your maths unfortunately is as dubious as mine. I haven't got Denise to join me at ironfest yet. Maybe the thought of drinking home made rum from an oil can with Vikings is not her thing...yet.

Faires and Wild West shows ...
Sounds like it was a great event and great photos too. :) Like the Mediaeval Faire at St. Ives each year, Ironfest is still on my "must do" list too. Each time, the last couple of years, we have been off doing other things so, have missed both when they have come around. Each look like a lot of fun. They remain on the list. :) J xx

Faires and Wild West shows ...
Decisions decisions Jan. Medieval Faire at St Ives and Ironfest at Lithgow...been to both and both are fabulous. But there is something about the diversity of Ironfest that has captured my soul. Also makes a great weekend away as its over the other side of the Blue Mountains for us folk from Sydney.

Correcting the Math....
Agreed Dave. Now the corrected equation would be (Dancing Dave + Denise = Sign Language Happy Couple); Thank you for assisting me in identifying my mistake. :) :)

Correcting the Math....
Made me laugh Tab. Maybe that's why I was bad at maths. Maybe you need Ironfest in Canada.

Through the ages.
I went from the Middle Ages to the Future - from the Terminators to Cinderellas & Hannibal Lectors. I tried to pick a favourite photo, but failed... Amazing images! Great show!

Through the ages
The last I heard you were planting your flag at the North Pole Dave...about the time I was dancing at Ironfest. Then before that you were working in Antarctica. May my photos warm you up wherever you are...and take you to Ironfest...where Anything...Absolutely Anything Goes.

The Eyes have it!!
What a great array of faces and such interesting experiences to be enjoyed. Wearing costumes changes your personality; freeing you to be someone else and leaving your everyday persona behind. I do hope living that dream was as good as I imagine it to be!

The Eyes have it!!
My quest this year were the eyes Michelle, so I took heaps of closeups, which can be intimidating as it reveals warts and all.. The fun was then who to choose for the Panorama slideshow. Thanks for commenting. There were so many wonderful faces but as there were many hundreds in their finery, it was such fun to choose who to grace the lens in the limited time. Pity so many had to miss out.

Burning Man Festival
Should I pick the Terminator or a Viking as the pic comment? Well, the Viking is closer to home so it makes more sense I guess. When I see your pictures I come to think of Burning Man Festival in Nevada. I've never been there but I have a friend who has and I have seen photos from there. Have you been there? Do you know of it? I am sure that I would love to walk around there and take photos of people, their costumes and their vehicles, tents and everything else. My guess is that so would you. /Ake

Burning Man Festival
Love the pic you have chosen Ake. The suggestion of his wife's head coming out of his chest as he was smiling for me was irresistible. Burning Man Festival I've heard of but never been. Any place where there are multitudes of people dressed to the nines anxious for their photos to be taken is my kinda place. I have one overseas option in mind that a number of the folks at Ironfest are keen to attend. Do you have any Viking Festivals in Sweden that might tempt a visit?

Middle ages themes festivals
Most historically themed festivals in Sweden are mostly geared towards the Middle ages rather than the Viking Age. It's a bit strange now that I think of it, but that's the way it is. If I would visit one of those festivals I would pick Middle Age Week in Visby (http://www.medeltidsveckan.se/en/). It is a large festival and it is held mainly in the Hanseatic City Visby, which has a very well preserved historical city centre from the Middle Ages. /Ake

Middle ages themes festivals in Gotland
Thanks Ake. I've checked the website and notwithstanding I do not understand Swedish there was enough there to excite this middle ager. Can Emma and you attend the next one to check it out and report back? Looks like photo ops a plenty.

Silence of the Lambs
Of many of my favourites this is one of them MJ. Well spotted.

Working your subjects
You have the knack of capturing "that moment" "that look" .... Glad you could attend the festival for your photo shoot. Excellent stuff here Dancing One. MJ

capturing "that moment" "that look"
That is the challenge for me MJ...the thrill is achieving it. Thanks for commenting.

Would love to go to one of these!
Your pictures really are enticing me to go over to the land down under and attend this!

Would love to go to one of these
Ah. I may have a taker Per-Olof. Maybe you should be the Swede to visit the Middle Ages Festival in Visby in Gotland and report back. Ake maybe will be away but for you it maybe just down the road.. Pics of you in Middle Age gear would be a revelation and not out of place considering you are a descendant of Viking lore. Bit of a warm up for swinging the sword in Oz. How about it?
