2-3 November 2010 We spent a couple of nights in Kiama which is the first place we actually set up camp. It also happened to be the first time that we had actually stayed in the tent overnight - crazy, I know! We were one of only three groups in the campground for the first night and then by ourselves for the second night. It was great to stay somewhere where we had stayed before as the familiarity was a bit of a security blanket for us. It rained on and off the whole time which was a bit of a bummer but at least we discovered the tent doesn't leak! Yay for us! Surprisingly Oscar only rolled out of his bed once which was a nice surprise and the following night he stayed put the ... read more

1st November 2010 We spent our first night in a motel in Wollongong of all places. We left home much later than anticipated and the rain was consistently heavy and we were all feeling a little stroppy as it had been such a big day (well big 2 weeks really - packing up house, packing car & trailer, working on car & trailer etc etc). Not to mention the mixed emotions of leaving "home" and saying goodbye to mum & dad, Shell, Tilly & Bohdi, Em & Benny who all waved us off. And our beloved dog, Chloe.. Amongst the feelings of sadness were also feelings of excitement, curiosity and intrigue as to just exactly what awaits us on "our big trip around Oz".... read more

This morning we went to the local market and then on to the little quaint town called Berry. We had a lovely time wandering in and out of the craft shops and had lunch at a little cafe in the Town. Steve and I went on a horse and cart ride around the Town and the old fellow who drove the horse told us a few tales about Berry. He was very interesting. We spent the afternoon lazing around at the Van park and wandering along the waterfront and the beachfront. On Sunday morning we headed home. We really enjoyed our holiday.... read more

Today we had a very big day out. We drove North stopping in at Kingsford Smith Memorial Lookout at Gerroa. The view from the cemetery was fabulous. We then drove up into the Budderoo National Park (after getting a little bit lost) to visit the Minnamurra Falls. The walk to the Falls took us over 2hours and is more than 4kms. It was beautiful walking through the rainforest. We saw some lyrebirds and water dragons along the way. After our lovely walk to the Falls we drove up to the Jambaroo lookout and had lunch. After our lunch stop we visited the 'Illawarra Fly Tree Top Walk'. Bob and Tracy did not wish to do the walk so Steve and I continued on our own. It was quite scary being up so high. The floor of ... read more

This time, coming to the land down under was somehow even longer than the first time. Well, I did chose the discount flight (I was quite pleased that I wasn't sharing economy class with chickens at the price I got my ticket!), and had two layovers, but either way, Australia is bloody far away! Within a few days of arriving Down Under, I discovered a new phobia. Now, last time I was here, I chased a dingo in the outback, didn't even think twice when I almost stepped on a black snake in Tasmania (hello one of the most poisonous in the world?) and even somewhat got over my fear of spiders. Somewhat. But give me a leach and I freak out. These leaches are not like our big fat ugly North American leaches found in ... read more

I guess it has been a while since my last update. I have been out of internet contact for sometime. I met up with my friend Dave on the 24th and we spent the day catching up on my recent travel, his through Europe and then went out drinking with people from the hostel. Dave and I found a free museum and spent several hours walking through it looking at everythign from modern art to chinese and Australian aboriginal art. The 25th was Australia Day which was a great deal of fun. We spent the day around the Botanical Gardens and a large portion of Sydney's streets were closed for festivals and lined with vintage cars. These vintage cars were quite different than those I am used to here which was really cool to see even ... read more

Hi to you all for the last entry of this travelblog. After a hideous overnight journey from Brunei to Sydney (I am never flying overnight again unless I move out of economy seating!!!) we arrived home to a very welcoming dog and kids racing to see who could ring their friends first. Dylan, Caitlin and Jack have now cramed an entire summer holidays worth of Kiama friends into the past 4 days. We are all pleased to be home in our paradise here in Kiama, but very sad that our trip is over. Some final reflections and a few more photos for you. Highlights: the trekking tour in Laos (with kayaking, cycling, elephants, village stay), hiring bikes and cycling around Hoi An and the surrounding countryside, discovering little alleys and streets in the towns and cities, ... read more
