We have decided to spend one more night here, and plan a visit to the nearby town of Anna Bay. It is about a half hour drive and the beach is easy to find. The beach is stunning with fine sand and huge surf. Four wheel drive vehicles drive along the beach from time to time and a few brave souls are trying to surf. As we wade into the waves, the water temperature isn't what you would call warm, but it is not as cold as I expected either. Perhaps further up the coast we may be swimming. The real attraction here are the huge sand dunes that stretch 35 km from Anna Bay down the coast. After a taste of the beach, we head up to the dunes. The scene is like something from ... read more

we drove 700km from port macquarie to bathurst and all of us felt sick over the mountains on the oxley highway to tamworth. tamworth has a very pretty main street. just what jock had in mind for numurkah all those years ago i am sure. simon did some work at bathurst base hospital for 10 days. claudia and simon particularly had a great time at the fossil and rock exhibition in the old school building. a guy called warren somerville has put his lifetime collection of rare rocks and minterals and a caste of tyranosaurus rex into a neat exhibition. the man himself was there and i had a chance to talk to him about dirt. claudia lorenzo and gina made some friends and went to a farm and oberon dam. nonna came up for a ... read more

Day 5 Hunter Valley, home to 100+ wineries. Big vineyards like Lindemans and Wyndham Estates and tons of boutique wineries you'd never see in canada. We hit the tourist centre to try and get a tour. We're hit with 3 no's which is weird for a Wednesday according to the Info clerk. We'll we're a can-do couple, so we head out on our own. I've wanted to see wineries like Lindeman's since we planned to hit wine country, so we strike out for theirs 1st. Lots of windy, dippy and pour roads, we arrove at Lindeman's. Before I go further, I must mention that we'd been a to big, elegant winery in Kelowna 2 years ago and had a fabulous tour. I had big expectations. We get a small cellar door (wineries will have these to ... read more

Having had an enjoyable time in the blue mountains, we felt a need to get back to the coast. We headed to the pacific highway and slowly headed northwards. Taking in many of the scenic routes along the way. These took us to some small, unsploit, remote beaches. Many of which were much nicer, than some of the better known touristy beaches we had encountered. Our first stop was Gosford where we stopped at the information centre. (Information centres in Australia are excellent, they give you all the info you need and some) Here we met a travelling coffee seller and decided to partake in a steaming brew. This guy was full of the aussie banter and we don't know whether he felt we needed feeding up, but as it was his last stop of ... read more

Very windy and rather cool today. When we were last here about two years ago it was 40o but is definitely different at present. Did a drive around Tuncurry and Forster and later a stroll around the local town centre shops. From the Tuncurry side we saw about a dozen dolphins but they were very difficult to photograph.... read more

100 and something Km today to Forster-Tuncurry. Forster is on the southern side of the entrance to Wallis Lake and Tuncurry on the northern side. Set up camp and had lunch and then explored on foot. The caravan park is in a great place by the lake entrance and the beach and right next to the town centre. We ended up in a great spot right by the water.... read more

It's been another weekend where the locals have been putting us up...those long hot hours on the street with the hobbo stick drooped over one shoulder, crying "Please sir, can I've some more?" have really paid off. This weekend we spent it in a nice quiet town called Forster. The scenery is beautiful all around with views overlooking the lakes on one side & the ocean on the other side. But you'd be hard pushed to see the hand in front of you the night we arrived as the torrential rain hammered down......you wouldn't put the dog out in it but it did make for a spectacular lightning show..... Thankfully the rain cleared cause we spent the next day out on boats on the lake.....BBQ boats. BBQs are big here rain or sunshine ....whether it be ... read more

The surf camp bus was about half an hour late showing up and took another half an hour at least for the staff to get breakfast before we were on our way. The surf camp team consisted of Stevo - the driver, Dillon and Nass - the instructors, and a couple of helpers who just get free accomodation and food for helping with the surfing. Both Dillon and Nass were still drunk from the night before, Nass sporting a cut eyebrow and chin from a scuffle he had had with a bouncer in Cheeky Monkeys which had started with Nass mistaking the curtain in the main club for a urinal. For the first hour or so aboard the bus, I was wondering what we had let ourselves in for, having found a new level of Aussie ... read more
