Seems like it didn't take us long to get into holiday mode, all plans to get up and leave early seemed to disappear. But the position by the river was beautiful and even though it was actually a free camping site on the edge of the river didn't matter. We faced the river would not have know we were be the road apart from the occasional car. Great spot and one we would recommend if you are looking for a stopover that doesn't cost. One thing with Shazza we don't fit into all caravan parks easily, but we actually prefer staying in places like this.
So we set off, planning on getting to Durass, about a four hour trip we estimated. Firstly we went along the road and Pete saw a turn off to where we wanted to go and off we went, uh uh it turns out to be a dirt track that leads through the state forest, yes it ends up where we wanted to go but it is a windy and skinny and meeting other vehicles is a challenge, but we did it and Shazza went like a trooper and so the little side track we took
ended up being very scenic and a great way to go.
So let me set the scene for you - we find the Princes Highway and we are hurtling along the road, through the National Forest, down fast and slowly up the hills, but still making good time. Pete obviously is driving, Ben is reading, Hayden is napping and I am in the front seat, trying to not nap! Music is going and all is well, until........ all of a sudden lights are flashing, there is loud beeping and Pete is quickly pulling off the road. Well everyone was wide awake then wondering what is going on. Well it appears Shazza popped a hose on the radiator and there in the middle of nowhere she lost all her water and we were on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere. Lucky Pete doesn't panic, because I was, not really but I was thinking now what do we do?????
So Pete brings out the rug lies under Shazza, fixes the hose, refills the water and then we are off again. But we decide Shazza needs a rest (or is that Pete) and so we go into
Eden and find a great caravan park, the South Coast Caravan Park Eden, which is between the lake and the surf beach. Absolutely wonderful spot we had on the oval parked right on the lake's foreshare with hardly anyone else around. We don't take long to set up which is one of the great things with Shazza, within half an hour we are set up and ready for our drinks and nibbles.
Another small problem has arisen, we have no fridge and so all the food has had to come out of the fridge and into esky and we decide stay in Eden until Monday so we can find a fridge mechanic. Oh well not such a trial having to stay here. Pulled out the Kayak and Ben took and tried fishing out in the middle of the lake. Lucky I didn't count on fish for dinner. As the fridge has gone haywire we are having to eat all the frozen meat, so a great dinner was had by the lake.
Decided to go for a walk into Eden for an ice cream, wrong - nothing open, apart from Coles so we bought a box of ice creams
and walked home. Quiet town in an amazing position. Looks like an opportunity for a café that stays open past six, especially on a Saturday night.
Still it was peaceful and calm and a great place to stay, and we wandered back along the surf beach and went to sleep with sound of the waves in our ears
