Day 64 Again I am forced to make handwritten notes as the laptop is still intermittently playing up. Fortunately Helen and Robin here at Craigieburn Camp Site in Glenn Innes are more than accomodating in allowing us update the blog using the pc in their office. However we are having some problems with photographs. Today we drove out to Boolabinda Homestead on Bullock Mountain as I wanted to do some fossicking and as we had already tried a reserve that was open to the public at Glencoe, it was so overgrown Andy was concerned that if you went through the long grass to the waters edge one of us was bound to get bitten by a snake and with my track record it would have been me! We turned the truck around and drove back through ... read more

Day 63 (9 weeks) I awoke this morning to hear Andy talking to someone outside, that is just like Andy to strike up a conversation with anyone that’s passing by no matter what time of day it is. I find Andy chatting to Kevin, he and his wife Barbara were on the pitch next to us. They are both retired and are making there way home (the long way home) after the Christmas celebrations with family at Tweed Heads. We chat about fossicking, Kevin explained that he and his wife went fossicking yesterday and they had a big find. They bring out their little container of stones, I was thinking they may find just one or two stones, but no, there are dozens of little sapphires amongst others, possibly some black spinel and zircon, amongst them ... read more

DAY 41 18th December 2008 As we had decided to stay another day at Glen Innes camp site, it gave us time to catch up on general things, reading, blog and general house keeping. The temperature last night had dropped as the night before so we put an extra blanket on the bed, that we had been given. This morning we just couldn’t get out of bed and when we finally did at around 9.00 am we just sat around drinking tea and watching the world go by. Robin the camp site owner came past of his sit on mover and asked if we wanted to go and have a coffee with them which we thought would just be great. In their place a Dutch Lady, who was working and cycling around Australia was also in ... read more

Hurrah, we woke up late this morning, perhaps the daylight saving time had something to do with it. It was 8.00 am before I got out of bed. It was a cold night, Robin said 6 degree’s Centigrade, but now looking at the sky outside we are set for another nice day. We have decided to stay here for another night, just to relax a bit, see the area and catch up on a few chores. There is no Starbucks for our internet access but the campsite owners have kindly allowed us to log on using their own internet connection in the office. The kindness of some Australians is amazing. As much as I love the camper trailer that we have, I look around the site and remember the camper vans (RV’s) that we have had ... read more

The night was cool, a significant difference to the heat and humidity of the Sunshine Coast. Waking up this morning to a view of the Great Dividing Range was stunning, the sun was coming up and the blue skies were prevalent. I actually put my fleece on for the first time since arriving in Australia. However that was not on for long, by 7.00 the sun was quite strong and the day was turning out to be very warm. I do have to say at this point I am getting up earlier each day, today was 5.00 am, it is somehow easier to get up when the sun is shining. This morning’s effort at getting ready for the day is truly back to nature; I wash using a bowl of cold water that Andy has put ... read more
