SurfingSurfingSurfing

I decided to show the Australians how to really surf...NO WETSUIT!
Our trip has begun! I'll keep this short because I'll be updating more often now. I'm currently at my good friend Mark Dunston's house in the Central Coast...about two hours north of downtown Sydney.

We spent Wednesday night at Max (one of my Harbord roomates) holiday house. It is basically a time share, so we went up for the night. It is on this tiny island, so we had to take a ferry to get there. We missed it by an hour, not even close and we faced with paying for an eighty dollar water taxi...or not going. Thankfully, we gave some guy a beer and he drove us over in his tiny tin fishing boat. We spent the night there relaxing and cooking a HUGE meal. It was nice to take a hot shower for longer than 2 minutes, and relax in a nice house. Yesterday we picked up our van in South Sydney, and made the interesting journey up here with no trouble! We rented from a company called Wicked...they are notorious for having vans that are painted up with crazy designs and/or slogans. Our van is named TANKED has a big cartoon of two drunk guys on the side with some things that are hard to say when you are intoxicated. Hopefully the pictures I posted are big enough, and you can read it.

This morning, we woke up and Mark gave Jake and I a proper surfing lesson. I didn't get up on a board, but I did catch some waves and have a few good rides. It was so tiring, but i'm glad i didn't just bob up and down in the water like i thought i would. We'll hang out here this arvo (arvo = afternoon) and then drive this evening until we see a fun place to stop! We have no where to be until the 8th, so for the next four days, we are just driving and stopping for a swim / meal / whatever whenever we want!

I'll post again before we leave on the 8th!

Dan
