Hello People,
We woke up early so we could have a swim before packing up our stuff up and getting our bus to Byron. We loved Surfers Paradise however we could not wait to get to Byron; it’s the only place in Australia that nobody has had a bad word to say about.
We had a quick breakfast of yogurt and fruit, had our last swim then caught the 705 bus right outside the unit to the main transit center (its what they call the bus depot in Oz). It was only a 5 min journey but we were starving when we got there so grabbed a subway for $5 (Bargain), the bus station was located on beach road, and easy to find, we checked in and it wasn’t too long before the bus turned up and we were away!!!
So it was just over 2 hours to Byron, it went all along the gold coast with many stops, luckily they were the same places Paul had taken us so we didn’t miss anything!!! We had a read and chat on the bus and soon enough we got to Byron Bay.
We had a pick up from the bus station, even though it was only a 2 min walk like most places are in Byron. The girl that picked us up in the minibus gave us a quick tour of Byron (the beach, best live music bars, Wollys etc). We checked into our hostel after some hassle from the guy on the desk, the hostel was called the Holiday Village. (All people with peter pan’s vouchers on your phone, make sure you print them out on paper as they don’t accept PDF copies, it cost us $2 and hassle to print them out in a photo shop!!!)
Once checked in we went for a walk around Byron, I had to use all my cunning to talk Vick from not going into every shop, she loved it. The main thing about Byron is it has a very hippy commune feel to it (not my thing but Vick loved it and I can see why other people would).
After walking down to the beach we decided to head back and get some Wi-Fi to catch up with things and have a bit of a chill.
We headed to Woolworth’s to get some ingredients for dinner, so normal cheap stuff, pasta…etc…LOL. As we were starving we got some dominos pizza as its only $5 for a pizza (crazy cheap I know). This ended up being dinner as we couldn’t be bothered to cook. Also we got some free burgers at this religious BBQ, they were really nice people all from around the world studying the bible in Oz, but free food can't be turned down and the swiss girl we chatted to was nice.
We then went out for the night to meet 2 girls from our Frasier Island tour Rebecca and Becky. We stopped off in a bar called Woody’s first as I had lost my hat and found that if you got a drink there and tagged yourselves in FB you got a free hat…so we did, it was a horrible empty bar so only had one expensive beer there!!!
We then headed to the Northern bar, we had checked it out before and found they had live music, we met the girls there with their mates and had a good catch up, they were
all a bit out of it after they had been in Nimbin all day trying there wares!!! (Nimbin is a hippy commune which, specializes in hemp things LOL)
The music was too loud for the girls so we headed over to the railway bar, this place was packed beyond belief!! We walked in but Vick and the girls were shattered and we had to be up early for our surfing lesson the next morning. We said our goodbyes and headed back to our hostels!!
Once back we both were asleep quick, both excited about the next day!!
Love N&V X
