We wanted to again visit Bermagui on our trek southwards, as we can never get enough of this picturesque south coast town. Our caravan park overlooks the ocean and is just a short walk to the local shops containing many fine cafes and eateries, including our favourite vegetarian restaurant, "Boneless". The nearby Fisherman's Wharf has the best fish and chips you will ever eat, along with The Gelati Clinic, who produce their own unique flavours of gelati. Our first goal was to climb the stairs down the cliff face to the Blue Pool for a swim. The Blue Pool is a natural rock pool that was expanded to it’s current 50 metre length in 1937, and is probably the best of the more than 100 ocean fed rock pools that line the coast of NSW. Coastal towns, Merimbula and Bermagui are great spots for retirement living, but where are the major facilities for health, etc. These two places would make excellent holiday venues with baoting and fishing being high on the agenda of things to do. Coastal walks and occasional whale sightings at the right time would make both places magical spots.... read more

Its time to hit the road again. The Sally Wagon and I (very sadly without any four legged friends this time) are almost packed and ready to head off on a new adventure. Over the course of the next three months, I will travel all the way across this beautiful continent. I have never been further west by road than Ceduna, SA and am really looking forward to the desert areas, the Nullabor, Head of Bight, and as much of the South West of Western Australia as I can manage. Wild flowers should be abundant. Whales should be giving birth off the cliffs of the Nullabor and as always I am excited to unleash my insatiable curiosity as to what lies around the next bend, or just over the next hill. This time I am armed ... read more

At last, life has settled down and I have had the camera back in my hands. What a great feeling. Friends will know that since I returned home from my travels into the Australian Outback last year (2014), my life has been thrown into turmoil by the death of my little four legged travel companion Polly Panda, and then the relocation of my home in March 2015 from rural village Quaama to coastal haven Bermagui on the Far South Coast of NSW. Both events have taken all my time and energy to come to grips with and readjust. And the camera has seen little light of day (or night) until very recently. But things are settling down now, and as I said in my opening line, I now have the camera back in my hand, have ... read more

Hi followers. Just thought I would give you a couple last pictures taken at Bermagui before we move on to Merimbula. Some great scenery up around the Blue Pool AND our mate "hoppy" the seagull who was trying to get the sympathy vote while we were down at the harbour eating fish and chips. If you take note, we nick named him hoppy as he only has one leg and even that leg has no foot. Just goes to show you they can overcome anything and still lead a fulfilling life. Something many of us humans should take into account. A bit disappointed of the sea in the photo of Lyn at the Blue Pool. Where is a decent wave when I need it. Enjoy.... read more

Hi blog followers. Today (I think it is Sunday) the weather is not so good, so I am taking the opportunity to do all my "on Line" activities. I must say, the Bermagui Seaside Fair yesterday was extremely lucky with the weather as it was an excellent day all day. It wasn't just the weather that was great as the township is to be congratulated on the efforts they went to in making the Fair such a great day for all. See attached photos. For a small town, they certainly did a great job to keep all the visitors (they say around 10,000) fully entertained. Even at the end of the evening, the fireworks were fantastic and we had front row seats as they were held right across the road from the park we are staying ... read more

Yesterday we moved on to Bermagui where our friends Keith and Jude have a holiday unit and have been telling us how great it is down here. I must say they are not wrong. A lovely little fishing town on the south coast. The town folk have done a lot of work to keep the town neat and tidy and looking great which would have to help them for tourism and keeping the town alive etc. We chose to visit now as the Seaside Fair is on, which leads me to add a bit of culture to my blogs and photos. As part of the fair, they offer artists an opportunity to place sculptures in the hillside park overlooking the township. It would appear a lot of the theme this year is recycling as many of ... read more

While we were at the Wharf we had some lunch. I finally got my ½ dozen oysters (for $7.50) straight off the oyster beds that morning and just opened. They were tender and delicious, so I’m happy now! Barry had Blue Grenadier and we shared some chips. We sat outside to eat and watched the comings and goings on the wharf, both human and bird. We saw some really large black cormorants, the usual pelicans and Silver Gulls. Whenever a boat returned to the wharf, it was mobbed by birds appearing from everywhere to see if there would be any handouts. They got lucky on one boat – a hire for the day fishing experience that had been successful and caught loads of fish. Part of the deal is that the crew clean the fish for ... read more

After breakfast today we did go in to Bermagui and see the Indoor Sculptures at the Community Hall. As with the larger, outdoor ones, there were a range of pieces, many by the same artists. Some I really liked, some I found ordinary, some were disturbing and some made you think. AND A DRAGON!!! He was a Chinese Dragon made by Jodhi Doyle of recycled metal, including nuts and bolts; 70 cm tall, and 95 cm long; and looked gorgeous. Definitely my favourite to take home (except he’s not for sale, weighs a ton and wouldn’t fit in the van! Aaaaaah for me!) but I’ll have to be content with a photo of him. There were several others that also caught my eye. One was “Ghossel Boats 1” by Pauline Balos, which was a lot of ... read more

After a very late lunch, we went to see if there was a map of where the sculptures are displayed. We found the Community Hall, which has a lot of the smaller pieces inside, but realised there was only 20 minutes before they would close so we’ll do that tomorrow. We did buy a $3 catalogue and have time to look at the series of large wooden carved panels that were in the foyer. They depicted the changes in life from only Aboriginals living on the land, through the settlement by Europeans and the growing and working together that has slowly happened, although there are still inequalities. The catalogue showed that there were a group of sculptures outdoors in Dickinson Park and on Endeavour Point. Both were beside the water and it was very windy but ... read more
