We have navigated our first day of camp with some tired bodies at the moment. Our first activity for the day was a bike ride around Lake Burley Griffin. We rode a total of 12km which was a good way to get some exercise after the 14 hours on the bus. we then stopped for a sausage sandwich lunch by the river with some curious swans looking on. We then had an hour to fill before our visit to the National Museum so we got our sports equipment out and had a run around. We arrived at the National Museum and split into groups. The highlight was seeing Pharlaps heart which was significantly larger than a normal horse heart. We stayed for a few hours with a few peoole catching a quick nap on the comfortsbke ... read more

Last month, I had the privilege of taking my first ever trip to Canberra . For those that don't know, Canberra is the capitol of Australia and as you can imagine, it lived up to the hype. This particular city had so much to offer to all of its visitors. From couples to singles to families, there was tons of fun and interesting things to do. As a single woman myself, I didn't find that there was any lack of activities to participate in here. When I first stepped foot in Canberra and picked up my car hire from carhirecanberraairport.net.au , I couldn't wait to check out all the national museums, touri... read more

Tuesday 7th April 2015 The rain ensured that we would wake up to a surprise; we were sitting in the only puddle in the parking area! Never mind, careful steps on tip-toe and the unit was moved. We arrived at the Exhibition Park in Canberra (EPIC) just after 1000, only to find that a Folk Festival had been held during the weekend and the tents and stages were still being dismantled. A phone call to the manager informed us that the grounds wouldn’t be opened to caravans until after 1300. Several other caravans joined us in the adjoining carpark during the morning, camping here being cheaper and more convenient to the city centre than commercial parks. One couple, Doug & Nikki, were most friendly and we spent some time talking to them. Doug is a teacher, ... read more

Poor My toes were freezing because I was wearing thongs (flip flops), the temperature on the car dashboard says 6 degrees C and when we checked the weather in Perth an hour before it was 17 degrees, oh and just in case I forget to mention later on, it has been snowing in the mountains, so it is fair to say that I am feeling the cold this morning! After a couple of days at Woodstock, enjoying the surrounds, Helen and Roberts company and sorting through our gear that we had stored in the container, we want to take some stuff back to Perth with us, in particular a saucepan that will go nicely in Roobie. We both have a mass session of trying on clothes and creating piles of "taking" and "leaving" amongst the nice ... read more

I am not sure if we mentioned in the previous blog, but as we arrived back in Canberra this afternoon we pulled up at a set of traffic lights, Andy pointed out a couple of vehicles, one Lamborghini and one Ferrari, they were clearly wedding cars supported by a Jeep and a Mercedes. A moment later a police car cam screeching to a halt in front of the 3 lanes of traffic at the lights essentially blocking the road, a policeman suddenly appeared and shouted down the queue of traffic for "someone" to turn off the engine. I would swear that the whole queue of traffic turned off their engines. Well it looked like the brides day was about to be ruined, we are not sure what really happened, but perhaps they were racing each other ... read more

We arrived in Sydney and spent the night in the airport Ibis with a view to catching the Murrays coach to Canberra at 8am. When the various States became a federation in 1910 there was a major dispute about whether the capital should be in Melbourne or Sydney - to resolve it they created the Administrative Capital Territory and hence Canberra! Being such a new city there are not many historic sites but the Parliament has moved into a new building so you can visit both old and new. We started by visiting the new Parliament and had a guided tour of the building. Unlike most cities, the Parliament is quite a distance from the centre so you either rely on buses or be prepared to walk ( it was 28 degrees that day!) It's quite ... read more

Blog Day 1 Saturday 14 March Canberra to Sydney Fine 25 sunny Up before 7.00 and got ready. Shani came about 8.00 and we loaded the cases and took off for the Murrays buses. Mick came home from work just before we left. Big crowd at Jolimont so we caught the second bus to have a seat together. Pleasant trip took about 31/2 hours. Went up to the country platform at Central and Tim & Julie arrived about 5 minutes later. They drove us to Balmain which isn't longer the working class suburb it used to be. Drove all the way down Darling street where there was plenty of activity. We had lunch in a little cafe which was very nice. It was good to celebrate Tims birthday with them Then they drove us to White ... read more

Our journey continued due south to the Australian Capital Territory and into the capital city of Australia - Canberra. Our first impression was of a quiet city with wide open boulevards lined by large Eucalypt trees, low buildings and the feeling of space. We found our hotel, with the help of Sheila, which was situated on capital hill and were pleasantly surprised that it had been recently refurbished. As it was a Sunday we had a drive around the city, enjoying the lack of traffic. We visited the National War Museum which was extensive. There were many exhibits, maps plans, photographs etc presented in a way which explained all the conflicts that Australian troops had taken part in. The Australians appear to honour their war dead in a big way. Next day, although hot and sunny, ... read more

In preparation for our world tour 2015 we are receiving instruction on all important technology applications that we will need to communicate! I am moving into the 21st Century and instead of doing an old fashioned diary for the trip will use this blog. We will see how I go! I am adding a photo so that I know how to do this as well.... read more
