Journeying from Melbourne to Sydney (Sorry cannot get the pics to work.) We traveled in a newish Territory from Hertz overland to Sydney via some lovely small towns in upstate Victoria. I kept wondering why they were talking about Victorian issues when I thought that they were a century away. The penny dropped eventually. We stayed in Bright and Bentwood which are delightful towns full of gold mining history and the subsequent importance of wool now surpassed by beef and other products. We lost our way a few times ending up in the high country where there we real signs of the terrible fires in 2003 when Lesley was in the state last time. The regrowth is present everywhere. This gave us an understanding of the importance of fire which the Aborigines had worked out a ... read more

Me mentiin katolle ihailemaan maisemia. Tai siis puskia! Turvamiehet vähän katteli, et mitähän ihme hoopoja tänne on taas tullu, ku pyörittiin siellä katolla.

Minna otti sinisiä ja punasia ra... read more

Visited Countries Map My Travel Map does not include Bahrain (it doesn't get a mention in the program) and my visit to China was really only Hong Kong. My visits to US were actually only Hawaii as lay-overs in airports, so these don't really count either! The date of this entry is the day before I first travelled overseas at the tender age of 36 (better late than never, I suppose). I flew to Canada (with Air Canada) via Hawaii to conduct the first phase of my PhD fieldwork. Since then, travel has fast become a natural part of life. Thank God.... read more

I haven't done much since i posted last. Except for yesterday. We went to the Canberra show which is like a country fair... Everything from wood coppers, cow trainers, horse riders and ever scary carnie you could imagin! We went on the "dogem cars" (bumper cars) which was so much fun. Met 2 of Adams friends there as well. Wine tastes, ate, saw donkies. It was just a great time. I really felt like a country bumpkin though! After that Adam and I went to a little play that a friend of his was in, really really good. It was nice to see some local art. Then we met back up with Ana and Mark and headed to a place called shooters... ok dirtiest bar ever.. reminds me of milwakees actually $2 drinks till Midnight...the floor ... read more

Russell - After working all week we decided it was time we got out of “the city” and to see some more of this great nation, so we hired a car and headed for a weekend in the capital city. No, Sydney isn’t Australia’s capital city. No, not Melbourne either! We spent the weekend in Canberra. Canberra is a good three hour drive out of Sydney, so we wanted to be off early to make the most of our weekend away. I left Lins in bed on Saturday morning and borrowed her travel card to get the train to go pick up the car. After a short train journey (and then a walk almost back to our apartment, as the rental place turned out to be just around the corner), I arrived at the rental place ... read more
