Becoming an Australian Citizen

Just to let you all know that Caroline and myself, carried out our Australian Citizenship test today and we both scored 100%.

We are both apprehensive and went into town early so we could make sure we got a parking space, and got in at 08.30 and seriously had the very last space.

We went in to Maccy D’s to rally ourselves, over a Chai Latte and got all the bits and pieces we needed to together so we were prepared.

Caroline was up first at 10.00 am and I followed at 10.15, but as soon as Caroline got up, she had been gone a minute when she appeared and said we could get the paper work done together.

As soon as this was all done, we both went in to the test room and sat behind a computer where we had to answer 20 Random questions on Australia, its people and its government.

When I had finished I looked over to Caroline who was looking at me, so she obviously had finished before me, I think test took us about seven minutes to complete.

As we left the department of Immigration the young lady who had been dealing with us said that she would be in touch sometime next week.

Around 4.30 Caroline phoned me and said she had left her keys in the Cruiser so I said I would leave so I could meet her at home, and when I arrived she had just got back there herself.

She said that immigration had contacted her and wait for it.

OUR CITIZENSHIP HAS BEEN APPROVED.

At long last we are soon to become Australian Citizens and it is now only a waiting game as we have to officially give our pledge to Australia at the ceremony before we can legally can be Pozzies.

As soon as we have a date for our ceremony we can plan our Pozzie Party, in the mean time I have devised some of our own Australian Test Questions.

1. What is a baby Platypus Called.

2. What is the Nickname for Qantas

3. What is the largest radio Telescope in the Southern Hemisphere.

4. Who is Angus Young

5. What Is a Lamington

6. If you have got a Hogget what have you got.

7. Who was Fatso

8. What is Australia’s Largest Station

9. How many Wiggles are there

10.Why is Australian money water proof.

11. What sport did Rolf Harris excel at.

12. Who is Australia's head of state.

We are so excited with the prospect of being Australian and we have waited, (not very patiently) for four years with a couple of battles thrown in with the Department of immigration for good measure.

Our thanks to all our friends who have supported us through this amazing adventure, be it here or the other side of the pond.

Welcome home
You might have been born in Blighty but I suspect your souls were always Australian. I'm a Glasgow-born Kiwi but have lived mainly in Oz since 1970. Been to many other countries across the world and always come back here. Sylvia, although she was born in Australia and hates flying, is bound to Scotland. Makes for an interesting travel agenda. Congratulations. When you know your citizenship date, let us all know. Maybe we could make up a TB guard of honour! :] John

Congratulations on your 100% tests and battling through the red tape. It has been a long haul. You now understand how difficult it is to be an Aussie! We are a rare breed. Thrilled for you both. Love Keith & Jan
