I have not been to a Super Bowl game since my Niners lost to the Ravens in 2014 in Nawlins. I passed up the Niners last Super Bowl in Miami, as it was too expensive. The big game this year will be held at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. If my Niners make it, I plan to go, and stay with our dear friends up in Summerlin at the TPC Summerlin Golf Club. One of the highlights of Super Bowl weekend is the day before at the Superbowl Experience, now four days instead of just one. This year, the SB Experience will be held at the Mandalay Bay South Convention Center on the Strip. While I much prefer New Orleans to Vegas, I am sure we will find plenty to occupy our time. But I plan ... read more

My Niners

I wrote this a few years ago, when I went to Super Bowl 47. It is the ultimate football game. And now, The Niners are in Super Bowl LVIII (58)!!! January, 2014 Super Bowl 47 will start this afternoon. I will be there to watch the Forty Niners. I became a fan in the Fifties, when two players from my hometown, offensive tackle Monte Clark, and future all pro defensive back, Jimmy Johnson were drafted by the Forty Niners. Back then, it would have been difficult to envision the concept of the Super Bowl, or the greatness ahead for these two players. My Dad would have truly enjoyed being here today. He introduced me to sports. He took me to my first college and professional football games. We started out on a local level, our high ... read more

Looking back, many of our trips to Vegas in the 90s and early 2000s were in December, to join my family for a few days. We almost always stayed downtown, since it was my Mom's preference, and the rooms were comped or very inexpensive. We met up every morning for breakfast, then went our separate ways, to gamble, play golf, or go to a show. Then, we would all meet up for dinner. My Mom would always claim to have won a jackpot and bought dinner. I don't think she won that often? Here is the story: We are having a great time here in Vegas. The best parts are seeing our dear friends here and sharing the time with our family. My Mom enjoys gambling here so much, as does one of my Uncles, who ... read more

“The best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry.” Our best and only plan was to provide you with a blog on a wonderful cruise that took you, along with us, on the high seas. That will still happen BUT first, we must fill you in on what took us AWRY. After returning home from this marvelous cruise, Cory was stricken with Covid. I followed suit soon after…..are we surprised?? One of our fellow cruisers became congested during the last couple of days of the cruise. It didn't take long for the majority of us to all become congested once home…..and sick with COVID-19. I was the last one to be defiled…..now the final one to recover. I'm still confined to the inside of our RV while our friends are gradually returning to our Coffee ... read more

Hopefully, I will be at the BIG game on Sunday. If not, I plan to have dim sum for "brunch" that morning, then hang out in a sports bar somewhere in Vegas. But I think you should have an idea what the rest of the country will be eating on Super Sunday. This is the second biggest food holiday, exceeded only by Thanksgiving. Pizza reigns supreme as the top snack for the Super Bowl. It’s the reason behind the enormous number of delivery orders on this Sunday. Approximately one out of every seven people orders in on Super Bowl Sunday, and the majority of those orders include at least one sausage pizza (with sausage being the third most popular pizza topping overall). Chicken wings take the second spot. According to the National Chicken Council (yes, that’s ... read more

On Friday, my second trip to the Golden Gate Bridge was struck by a crisis neither of us foresaw, the only selfie stick we had broke. You never really know a crisis until you're in a crisis!! Our trip to the Fine Arts museum now hung in the balance, now dependent on the traditional method of taking selfies; the threat of happy memories blemished by photos with heads chopped off due to short arms and poor camera work was now real. If you take nothing from any of these blogs and there is a strong possibility you won't!!, promise me one thing, at least once in your life go to watch Cirque Du Soleil. This is not Crusty the Clown type characters with endless handkerchiefs in their pockets! These are athletes whom practice 10 -12 hours ... read more

Today was a variety – the sunniest day ever by the afternoon (it got to about 73 degrees F) but in the late morning we tried to find certain special birds in Box Canyon, and it must have been blowing cold wind thru that canyon at about 40 MPH! Crazy. Actually, the first thing on the agenda was – you guessed it Chris and Jeanette – the local water treatment plant. Great for a variety of ducks and teals and even 3 SNOW GEESE. One cinnamon teal. It was chilly but worth it – and then we went for brunch at a place we had discovered last year. The best sweet potato fries ever. Fortified, that’s when we drove into Box Canyon and tried to hike a little in the very cold wind. We didn’t see ... read more

Another busy and fresh-air day. It is almost 9 pm and we are finally in for the night, having left just after 8! This vacationing is quite challenging! Our first stop was Ramsey Canyon, 2 hours away. It is a Natural Conservancy – used to be a privately held area. There are still a few houses here and there in the lower areas. We walked about ½ mile along the canyon, and then climbed all the way up the Hamburg Trail to the Overlook – at least 500’ elevation change – to get into the pine forests and try to find the red crossbill (some people coming down had seen it that day). It was quite a challenging climb – glad I took my hiking poles. We were rewarded by the lovely smell of the pine ... read more
