Oh the joys of hiking: blisters, hotspots and fatigue. Why we looked forward to this I do not know. After a long break from the trail, we are back on our way to Georgia. We resumed travel in the small wind farming community of Mars Hill, ME, where mother picked us up a short week ago.
Back on the trail, the IAT between Mars Hill and Baxter State Park travels along a series of roads and abandoned railways. Walking on these level surfaces is relatively easy and straightforward. The difficulty comes from the severe impact that these hard surfaces have on our feet and joints. This has left us very sore but as our fitness and stamina increases this will become less and less of a problem. We have Katahdin in our sights and should be able to reach the north entrance in three days.
The temperature continues to drop but the rain has not been too bad. Now all we have to do is keep walking south to warmer weather.
