The weather continued to be windy and rainy. One morning there was actually a frost. I always need my sweatshirt in Laramie. This week the weather was even worse to the point we stowed the satellite dish for fear it would be ripped right off the roof. One night it hailed, big sleet and we woke to find the ground covered that morning. By late afternoon most days it was so windy that sitting outside visiting was impossible and it usually rained. By the end of the week our campsite was a water/mud hole and we were wearing rubber boots to go outside all of the time.
We had a great time visiting with Gene and Nan most afternoons. They would graciously invite us for dinner and we enjoyed just being with them. It is sad we live so far apart. One afternoon, we found them cleaning an old refrigerator out in their back garage. It turned out on our laundry day, Nan’s kitchen refrigerator just quit. Repairman sad bad compressor, get a new refrigerator. This meant Nan had to use her garage refrigerator out back to store all her food, which is a long haul from the
kitchen. Stacy had brought them and old refrigerator she bought on Craig’s-list for 60 bucks. Gene and Nan had spent the entire day cleaning this old refrigerator and then had a few issues getting it running. Finally it ran and now Nan had enough room to reasonable store food but unfortunately still in the garage. They were both tired and worn out but Nan said she at least had time to think and shop for a new refrigerator to install in the kitchen.
We were surprised by my brother arriving early. Jerry, most know him by Jay, and his wife Karen were in their RV and staying a few days in Saratoga Wyoming. Jerry and Karen live just three houses away from us in Arizona and we both had scheduled trips though Wyoming this summer. The plan was to meet up in Laramie and have dinner with the whole gang on Saturday night to help celebrate our granddaughter’s birthday. Jerry had called on Tuesday saying the Saratoga River was near flood stage and was 15ft or so from their backdoor. Further he complained the weather was windy, cold and raining. We let him know that the weather wouldn’t be
any better in Laramie. Jerry had been thinking of leaving Saratoga early and coming to Laramie but when he knew the weather was the same nasty stuff he said he’d wait. Well he did wait until the next afternoon when we got a text from Karen saying the Saratoga River was going to flood and they needed to evacuate! So Jerry and Karen arrived a day early but safe and sound. It sounds from reports like the whole RV Park was under water the next day. We took them for brunch to the Prairie Rose and were so glad to see them, especially safe.
This week we were just grateful both David and Red are healthy and feeling better.
