Well, everyone, I made it home safe and sound, and extremely tired. It sure feels good to be home with the dogs (who didn't miss me nearly enough - Kelly and Zach took such good care of them!) I'm all unpacked and it was a blast going through and organizing all my shopping goodies. I got some really cool stuff. I had a couple friends stop by today, and I am struggling mightily with jet lag. I'm trying my best to stay up until 10 p.m. I downloaded all my pictures, so I'm going to browse and add any cool ones I find, in no particular order. This will be my last post, so thanks again for all the time and positive thoughts you sent to me. Talk to you soon!... read more

I spent my last night in California with sister Birka and friend Jeff. We went to a local dive where i preceeded to beat Jeff at a game of pool. Immediately after my victory gloat i got crushed by a girl who was probably to drunk to have any idea how badly she embarassed me. That was pretty much the hightlight of my last night in California after which i got about 5 1/2 hours of sleep. I arrived at San Diego Airport with about 2 hours to spare before my flight left. after getting my ticket, which took 10 minutes, and making it through security, 15 minutes, i arrived at my gate with about an hour and a half to spare. i was to tired to take a nap so i went to McDonolds to ... read more

We have made it to Tower City, North Dakota, about 50 miles west of Fargo/Moorhead. We are about an hour ahead of schedule. We stopped to look for camping and saw a seedy motel with a camping sign and went to the city park instead to get our bearings and cook. A couple from the house acrossed the street told us we could camp here for free. there are flush toilets, running pump water and a great lawn with a nice pavillion and a park for the kids to play in. The temp in MN and here wasn't that bad, about 75 degrees or so with a constant breeze. Mom gave me a bundle of sage and a beautiful eagle feather. We are having smoked sausage and mac and cheese for supper.... read more

It is not enough to be busy…..The question is what are we busy about?----Henry David Thoreau July 17, 2005, Sunday. We decided to drive out to the “Spit”. It seems to be a throw back to “Hippie-Ville”. The Spit is the end of Homer, there is not where else to go except into the water of Cooks Inlet. There are lots of little shops and things that were started but…..very disorganized. The “daylight thing” got us up early, so we did some laundry before going to mass at 11:30 at St John the Baptist. We sure got our money’s worth, the service went on for a long, long time. The priest was from my home dioceses in Newark, NJ, and had been briefly at my home parish, Our Lady of Fatima, North Bergen, NJ, but ... read more

Sunday 17th July - Gators in Honey Island Swamp Intended going swimming but Rory has developed a rash which could be chicken pox so we stayed clear of the pool. Set off to do a midday swamp tour but did not arrive until almost 12:30. Reserved seats for the 2:30 tour and went into Slidell for something to eat. Found a restaurant. I asked the 'meet and greet' lady if I could see the menu, explaining I'm vegetarian. She then admitted she did not know what vegetarians eat. The menu was seafood extraordinaire, ribs, chicken, steak etc. We could have organised a salad but did not. Instead we went to Pizza Hut where we had a delicious olive Strip'N'Dipper - a rectangular pizza cut into 16 fingers accompanied by three dips. It was lovely even if ... read more

Today is easy to describe. We got up, had breakfast, went to the game, came home, ate dinner, watched TV and went to bed. Well, there was a little more to it than that. Sue is doing much better, but still not quite up speed. The cough is still persistant and the energy level drops off by late afternoon, but at least we're all getting out again. It was our first trip on the 7 train, the Flushing Line, so that was a real nostalgic trip for me. Imagine, we walk 2 blocks, get on the Broadway local, change at Times Square, and were buying our tickets within a half hour. Wish we could get to SBC that quick without having to park for $2.00 each. We bought our nose bleed seats and headed for the ... read more

...that was Sherry and I this morning, just a couple of migrant agricultural laborers, earning our keep picking beans, peppers, zucchini and squash (see photos). Mike & Seaona have a lovely old farmhouse with a large garden that produces almost too much for them to keep up with. We were able to help Mike catch up on their picking this morning. In return we got a nice night of sleep, and we left their place this morning with two bags full of fresh veggies: * Bag 1 - wax beans and zucchinis to cook up at my sister's place here in Alexandria * Bag 2 - banana peppers (rumored to be hot) for Sherry's dad in Georgia... ...but here I am expounding upon produce. Could anyone be finding this interesting? As indicated, we're at sister Lesley's ... read more
