Well, here we are on our very last day. Feeling a bit apprehensive about coming home; especially after all the news we’ve been hearing. Really loved Boston and have been staying at a great hostel right in the centre of the city. Karl managed to squeeze in a final game of baseball (the Red Sox, at Fenway Park) and I dragged him to a brilliant production of Hamlet on the common last night (with real thunder & lightning). Niagara Falls completed our ‘World Waterfall Tour’ pretty spectacularly. Next stop was Cooperstown, New York for the Baseball Hall of Fame - or sunbathing by the lake in my case. We then visited some great beach towns like Newport, Rhode Island, Cape Cod & Martha’s Vineyard, where we splashed out on lobster to celebrate completing our 6500 mile ... read more

Saturday morning we all got up and got ready to head out. Ian had offered to take me in the ferry to his parent's house in Port Townsend, which is accross the water and all the way north, almost to Canada. Sue dropped us of at the ferry which we barely made by running and dragging my suitcase. We lept on to the boat just as it was ready to pull out. We stayed on the deck and watched the city as we cruised across the water. Ian pointed out landmarks and sealife. Once we landed we walked to Ian's jeep that he keeps on that side of the water. We cruised up to his parents house through beautiful green forests. The air was cool and clean and I kept marveling at all of the green! ... read more

The next morning I woke up to Bryan's cheery voice saying he was on the ferry and on his way to Seattle. I got up and got ready just in time for him to pick me up. It was raining, which just made me feel that I was truely experiencing Seattle. I also enjoyed the cool air since it had been in the high ninties and hundreds for the past few weeks in SLC. We drove around looking for a place to eat breakfast and saw more of Seattle in the daylight. All the while chatting and catching up. We wondered around Pike's Place Market and had a snack at a Thai/Morroccan Restaurant.Bryan wanted me to see the new modern city library. We wandered around admiring the arcitecure and "modernness" of the colors and design. Ian ... read more

Now that i am aclimated and my legs dont feel like cement any more i have a little more energy to do some writting. i figure some of you wouldnt mind knowing how a typical day goes out here so i will do my best to paint you a little picture. I usually wake up at about 6 o'clock in the morning because i dont trust that my alarm clock will go off at the pre-set time of 7AM. i then fall in and out of sleep waking each time with a jolt because im afraid that i slept through practice. when my alarm finaly does go off im forced to get up right away because i lack the necessity of a snooze button. having gotten used to hitting snooze 4 or 5 times before i ... read more

“I can change the world, with my own 2 hands! Make a better place, oh with my own 2 hands, with my own, with my own 2 hands!” A couple of thousand people with both hands in the air singing along, holy shit this concert was awesome!! After a full on week @ camp me n Ying (1 of the US staff) drove to Royal Oak a nicer suburb of Detroit. The Royal Oak music theater is an old school theater with big high ceilings, balcony, seating and plenty of standing room. When we got there a guy called Tim Freud was playing and he was pretty good. I went to get a beer from 1 of the downstairs bars and had to wait 15 mins to get it and it was my first one so ... read more

Seattle Day 3 Seattle is a little weird but a cool city nonetheless. The first thing that struck me was the 'bus tunnel' the buses are sent underground almost like a subway system underneath downtown. Arrived at the hostel with few navigation hiccups from my part and they let me check in straight away - GREAT! Locked my stuff up abd headed straight out. After getting my bearings in town, i headed down to the waterfront to see what the story was down there. Its pretty cool, all the piers are there (surprisingly!) and loads of food places! Just kept walking as i had no idea where i was going or what i wanted to do so as soon as things start looking a litte less busy i would just make a change in direction. This ... read more

I woke up at seven with Brea and we are playing SORRY! on the computer. Everyone else got up around 9 and Roy made cheese omelets and bacon and we shared our breakfast muffins. We all had a chance to havce a hot shower, which was awesome, considering we hadn't showered since Friday night before we left! Nikki fought with Dot over food and Dot wouldn't even come out to me, if Nikki was by me. They got over it eventually though. We drove to Mt. Rainier N.P. hoping to camp at the White River Campground, but it was disgustingly full. We drove out and are now camped in Mount Baker and Snoqualamie N.F. Grantwood is 15 miles north of here which is good, we need gas badly. Mt. Rainier N.P. was breathtaking. The trees are ... read more

Hi Folks, This will have to be a short entry since now I am the sick one who is dragging around. We did hear from Henry and Lynn this morning and we are going to meet them tomorrow for a Governor's Island tour. We just got back, today, from Liberty and Ellis Islands and are waiting for a boyhood friend to meet us for dinner. Yesterday we did our run out to Queens where we started the day with treats from the Lemon Ice King of Corona. Then we walked through Flushing Meadows-Corona Park to Mt Hebron Cemetery where we looked up and found (finally) the graves of Cindy Noonans grandparents and uncle, as well as the great granparents of a high school friend of mine who lives in Benicia. I was ready to give up ... read more

If you've received multiple 'notification' emails, my apologies. I'm trying to post two entries in one day, and somehow I botched it. I'm posting this one under the 21st, even though today is the 20th. The reason for two entries, well yesterday marked the end of the North American portion of our trip. The obstacle is the path.-----Zen aphorism July 21,2005, Thursday. Let me tell you about Alaska’s 19 hours of sunlight. It is hard to get used to. We are now down to 18hrs and 38 mins of sunlight. On rainy days it is no problem, but on nice bright sunny days it is tough to sleep. I have gone the way of “Greta Garbo”, and sleep with an eye-mask; it is wonderful. It is sunny at 11 PM, this is sunset, not dark!!! And the sun is back up at 4 AM. Now in your mind convert this to winter??? That is 19 hours of darkness! I don’t think I will visit in winter. Well we left the campground for a bike ride in the morning. Alaska is amazing; it has bike trails everywhere. There ... read more
