Well this is entry #1. I'm just setting up the thing right now, and trying to figure out how to work it. Stay tuned.... read more

Half way to Georgia! Four miles after starting today we hit the half way mark. When we hit the Old Orchard Shelter we have now walked further than the NoBos. CC still thinks they are in better condition than us because of the Smoky Mtns, but I say miles are miles and we are just about as in shape as we will get. We can stand to loose a few more pounds, but as far as walking ability we are real tough now. We started walking at 9AM and made the 10.2 miles in a total time of five hours. That includes all breaks which are fewer than they used to be. We woke up around 6:45AM and took our time packing up. Breakfast was at the diner, we sat down at 8AM. CC ate French ... read more

This summer I have embarked on a small adventure to cruise Alaska. I am currently in Anchorage waiting to go to the train station to travel to the carnival cruise ship. Last night we arrived in the Anchorage airport at 9:00pm with the sun brightly shining. It was hard last night to get use to the sun setting well after midnight and rising just a few hours later. The weather is fantastic at the moment and I should be leaving for the train in a few hours. The next time I write I will be setting sail from the small town of Whittier, Alaska. Bon Voyage for now!... read more

Lost on the Moores. Rain started at 4AM drumming on the tent fly ever so lightly at the start, then growing in volume as time passed. Wind rustled the pines surrounding our nylon home, then slowly gained strength until it almost shrieked. Violent vibrations shook the aluminum skeleton and thin skinned house we tried to sleep in. No water came through the nylon, but with each gust it seemed like we would be drowned in rain. We laid in bed drifting in and out of our sleepy dream world until 7AM. The wind and rain had abated little since it first woke me at 4. CC and I were slow to rouse and not motivated to crawl from our warm, dry bags. Breakfast was cooked in the vestibule without incident. The rain slacked off long ... read more

No rain, no wind, and lots of sound sleep as the night passed into morning. I woke up at 6AM and needed to visit the privy. Once up and out of the tent it is no good for me to try and return for more sleep. Got the stove, food bag, water bag, and cook pot ready for breakfast. While heating my water, one of the hikers who had also risen early was listening to his small radio for a weather forecast. He said they are predicting more rain for this afternoon, not good. Most of our stuff is still damp from yesterday’s deluge. Our plan was to walk about 10 miles to a primitive camp, then do the last five plus miles tomorrow into Damascus for a ‘nearo’ (near zero) day. Then for Alabama on ... read more

The Great Puppy Road Trip 2007Thus begins the adventure of Zeddicus, Zorah, and Little Z. A Coachman Catalina trailer sits in a driveway patiently awaiting a truck to hook up to. Recently returned to it's new owners from the RV center where they carefully replaced and resealed the seams along the roof and corners, Catalina is slowly being packed with supplies for the upcoming trip. Zeddicus is working on preparing the truck, new extended mirrors, new weight distributing trailer hitch, and new sway bar for the safety of everyone on the drive. Zorah is a cleaning machine, taking the inside of Catalina by storm and carefully organizing the limited space to hold all the new gear for the trip. Little Z is, well, running everywhere. Her excitement for what will be her first family vacation. Together ... read more

Travel plans - set. Itineraries - printed. Travel-sized toiletries - purchased. Euros - bought. iPod batteries - charged. Passport - found. Suitcase - definitely NOT packed. So many things to remember to do before leaving on a trip like this one... luckily, Spain is a very modern country, so any material items that I forget can be purchased. It's interesting that this will be my first time traveling to Spain on my own - I mean, after the kids leave on the 20th, I'll be flying solo. I love being in the group setting because decisions have already been made - all you have to do is show up. For the seven days after the kids leave, I'm on my own. I'll definitely go back to Barcelona (22 to 24 June) and then head down to ... read more

We arrived in the beautiful Amish area of Berlin, OH and got the motor home all set up at Scenic Hills RV Park. It was time to eat by the time we were finished, so we drove to the nearby Swiss town of Sugarcreek, OH for a fantastic chicken dinner at Beachy's. The reason we came to Berlin was for a rather large local Bounder (our brand of motorhome) rally. There were also a few other members who arrived on Wednesday so we visited with a few of the people there and then turned in for the evening. ... read more

Our RouteHarry & JoyHere's a break-down of the sail plan. We're planning a stop-over of some kind between each leg of the cruise. Some of these include "padding" for weather, so based on conditions at sea, we may or may not be able to either leave port or come into port. Leg 1 - 70 NM: Long Beach/Los Angeles Harbor to anchorage at Smuggler's Cove on Santa Cruz island. Leg 2 - 60 NM: Smuggler's Cove to Cojo anchorage, just south of Cape Concepcion. Leg 3 - 215 NM: Overnight sail from Cojo to Pillar Point, just south of the entrance to San Francisco Bay. Leg 4 - 300 NM: 3 days and two nights sailing from Pillar Point to Crescent City. Leg 5 - 185 NM: Crescent City to Newport, Oregon Leg 6 - 240 ... read more
