Some of you may think this trip has been all fun and games and of course you are right. In addition to sampling every newly discovered local beer and discovering the only known Denney’s to serve beer, here in Wilsonville, Oregon, we have actually been doing some really neat flying. It’s been a real adventure knowing that every day we will be flying over countryside that we’ve never seen before and landing at airports we’ve never seen before. For flatlanders flying through airspace where at 8500 or 9500 feet we are looking up at mountains that run a thousand or couple of thousand feet above us is exciting to say the least (See picture of Mt. Shasta).
We have received wonderful treatment from briefers and controllers throughout the trip. When we requested that we might do a “Bay tour” in San Francisco, the controllers could not have been more accommodating in seeing that we got to see everything and had good photo angles of the Golden Gate Bridge and the city while deftly keeping us and everyone with whom we were sharing the airspace safe and sound. Our hats are off to them.

when informed of the nature of our trip the briefers have gone out of their way to provide us with the best tailored information possible (pics).
At nearly all of our stops we have had the epitome of “red carpet” treatment. Special mention has to go to the folks at Stafford Airport in Weatherford, OK, who couldn’t seem to do enough for us and who also have the record bargain price of $3.92 per gallon for 100 LL and those here at Aurora Aviation, Aurora State Airport in Wilsonville, OR, who completed the 50-hr. service required for AD compliance on our C-172.
Along the way, we have tried to repay in kind by providing pireps and enroute from Roseburg to Aurora, OR giving reports of several forest fires which seem to have been gratefully received (more pics).
Today we visited the Evergreen Aviation Museum in Mc Minnville, OR which is the home of the “Spruce Goose” which Bob Hawkins described as ONE BIG ______ AIRPLANE. Dick Strock and Bill Hughes opted for the “Flight Deck VIP Tour”, worth every penny of the extra cost, and had the enclosed photos of each
