Some changing colors
After breakfast and just a little more conversation, we bid farewell to my sister and her hubby, and began the drive to Florence, KY, where we'll spend a couple nights while visiting the Ark Encounter and Creation Museum.

It was a very good visit, and it was a good reminder just how important family is. I am especially grateful for my sister and the relationship we now have.

The day started out a bit cloudy, and we drove through a few showers that were so light it was almost unnecessary to run the wipers. That was probably necessary to remind us of home.

Very soon, though, the sky cleared up completely for another beautiful day. The sky was clear blue with just a few pure white cotton ball clouds, as we drove through more lush green rolling hills. (Easterners call them mountains, but some of us know better.) The leaves are just beginning to turn for the Fall. They must be spectacular when they're all ablaze with color. I am utterly amazed at the beauty of these hills. They just go on and on, around the hills and through the valleys, with barely a hint of civilization most

More changing colors
of the way. We also were pleasantly surprised at the few rest areas we visited, because they we very much like some really nice parks I've seen.

We have beautiful drives in the Northwest, too, but these are different, somehow.

Today, we drove through the Pisgah National Forest, the Cherokee National Forest, and around the edge of the Daniel Boone National Forest. It is amazing that our drive from Charlottesville to Asheville was also so beautiful. It was also amazing how much nicer the freeways have been compared to those in Washington. The roads are smooth as silk all the way through Virginia, Tennessee, North Carolina and Kentucky. There was a lengthy stretch of construction in Kentucky, but the temporary roads were still better than much of Washington's freeway system.

Now, we're settled in for the night, looking forward to tomorrow's tour of the Ark.
