Yellowstone River near our cabinToday is the first day or this trip that we’ve had any amount of time to ourselves. The guys are our fishing and Karen and I are organizing, repacking, visiting the shops, planning ahead, and walking around town. LTer this afternoon the guys will come back and we will drive though a different section of Yellowstone looking for wildlife and seeing the sights
Guys came back at 2:30 and we headed out through the park again. The girl that checked our park passes was from Hinton, WV. She was surprised to see someone from WV.
This trip we headed for Lamar Valley. Our primary objective was to visit a part of the park we hadn’t visited and to look for wildlife, particularly bears, elk, and something we hadn’t seen. Even those there was no prediction for rain, it started raining within about 15 minutes. It was also very hazy from the wildfires. We did see bison and a few elk but mostly just beautiful scenery
Dinner was at a place I’d read about that had elk burgers, bison burgers, beef burgers, salmon burgers, grilled chicken and veggie burgers plus a variety of fries and appetizers. It was called
Yellowstone the Corral. There was no inside dining so we were glad the rain stopped. Terry and I had bison burger, Ed-elk burger, and Karen had grilled chicken. It was all delicious but to tell the truth I couldn’t tell the difference between bison and good hamburger.
Back at the cabin we began preparations of cleaning out the car and packing for the next stop…Glacier National Park. It’s about a 5.5 hour drive mostly into parts of this country none of us have traveled.
