28th May, 2009 Travel to Jackson, Wyoming.
Up and on our way early this morning, back through the Wind River Canyon (took photo's this time), down to Shoshoni and onto SH26. Stopped at a neat little town "Boise" for lunch and had a great conversation with the owner of the coffee bar, a large grizzly bear had taken a wonder through the local camp ground last night - must have been looking for Sam. Population of Boise is 600, but has a number of restaurants / coffee bars due to its halfway location.
The wolf has been reintroduced into Wyoming after nearly being wiped out and is now in such numbers it is wiping out many of the other animals, including the Moose, they pray on their young. Apparently have a liking for domestic pets as well.
Anyway headed off up the Rocky Mountains again and hit the 9653ft summit after a solid climb, very picturesque with all the snow still lying around, then it was downhill, a short time later the Grand Teton Mountains came into view, what a sight. Grand Teton stands at 13,770 ft and Mt Moran at 12,605 ft, both higher than Mt Cook, so pretty
impressive. Got into Jackson (or Jackson Hole as some people call it) around 3pm, went to the local information centre and struck a very knowledgeable lady who steered us in the right direction for Rv Park, restaurants and even a Rodeo etc.
Jackson is like Queenstown, the proverbial tourist rip off, snow season, tourist season etc. Now think about this for a moment - booked into an RV park, "The Virginian Lodge RV Resort" $57.25 US a night, that is $96.70 NZ and that was after a discount because I belong to AA. They provide a piece of dirt, bit of power and some water which you can't drink, + a sewer connection if you use it.
Anyway the lady had suggested we drive out to Doran for dinner - it was great, right under Grand Teton, it was fine and we sat outside, meal was nice and then we went fro a drive looking for Moose - but to no avail, saw a number of groups of Mule Deer, a herd of about a 100 Mule deer, three Elk, two funny looking very large birds so it was still worth the trip.
Well time for me to load the
photos and then off to bed.

Still in Jackson?
Swing out to the Aerial Tram ride in Teton Village. Best view of the area by far.
