The theme for today is “no service”. When we are traveling, I use my phone to research the things we see, so that I can write intelligently about them, for my blog. But I was not able to do that today. For most of our drive to Casper, there was no service. In this day and age, with the technology we have available, how do these people survive without cell or internet on their phones? Or for that matter, do they even have cell phones? I guess they don’t. Well, we survived just fine for most of our lives without them, so if you don’t have one, you don’t miss it, I guess. So, we left Winter Park at 8:10 this morning and a chilly 53 degrees. But we dressed in shorts knowing that when we ... read more

blog 08-27-17 08-28-17 Day Off and Travel Sunday dawned with concern for Lynus. He had not really been himself for a day or so but this morning he had trouble walking and was stiff legged. He held his neck straight out and was not himself. Ginnie called the emergency vet hospital because, of course, it was Sunday and no regular hours for the doctors. There was a hospital not far and in 15 min Ginnie and Lynus were on their way. After a few hours they were back and the doctor thought the meds he prescribed would do the thrick. Later that day there was a good improvement and we are all breathing a sigh of relief. Saturday night Ginnie and I had decided to stay another night at this campground and forgo a visit to ... read more

Geo: 42.8501, -106.328Today was another moving day…a long drive from Great Falls, MT to Casper, WY. But before I get to that, I want to comment on last night's stay. I posted a few photos today that I could not load yesterday because of an challenged WIFI at the hotel, so I added them to this batch. Our hotel was located on the Missouri river which was right in our back yard, with lush green lawns and mature trees for shade. This was by far the best location of our hotels this trip. We would go back there in a heartbeat. So, on to today. We left Great Falls at 7:40 AM and 66 degrees. The sky was overcast for most of the day, so the photos are not bright and the mountains that we followed for ... read more

Well today we left Casper and headed out for Yellowstone. Rt 20 to 26 up to the Tetons and Yellowstone. Temp was around 75 and very sunny. Got to the town of Dubois and there was a parade going on. We waited for about an hour and were way back in line on the road so we could not see it. We just parked on the road and took a break. Tetons and Yellowstone are indescribable. Makes me know that there is an awesome God that made all of this. Even though I have been to Yellowstone before we took the grand loop road which gave me more views. I have now covered most of this park. Leaving Yellowstone we ended up at the north gate in Gardiner Montana. As the sun was getting low (don't ... read more

…was a hazy day. The smoke from the burning Pacific Northwest had reached central Colorado. It came in yesterday, but was very noticeable today as we left. The brown that settled over the city made taking pictures out the window of the truck even more fruitless. They all came out blurry because the camera couldn’t focus on anything unless it was less than 10 feet away. Today we drove the first 350 miles of our home stretch and landed at a campground in Casper, WY. We’ve been in better campgrounds and we’ve been in worse. This one was right next to the interstate AND railroad tracks…double whammy. The train whistle is loud, but at least it doesn’t sound as it’s passing the campground. It’s a bit windy, maybe it’ll blow the smoke away…maybe it’ll just blow ... read more

Monday, 15 June, 2015 After thunderstorms overnight, we woke to a beautiful morning. We drove to Chadron, NE, where we went past the house where Bob's grandparents used to live. Then it was north to South Dakota. At Wind Cave National Monument Jenna saw her first buffalo. We drove to Oreville Campground in the Black Hill National Forest south of Hill City, where we set up camp. We then went to Mount Rushmore, one of our favorite parks. Jenna got her 3rd Junior Ranger Badge there. Tuesday, 16 June Today is our 44th wedding anniversary. The five of us piled into our truck and headed out for adventures. Our first stop was Custer State Park, where we drove the Wildlife Trail. The first half was disappointing as all we saw were prairie dogs. But we finally ... read more

When we arrived at our huge KOA campground last Saturday, I was frazzled because of the ups and downs and curves we had just driven our big RV through. But by Sunday, our 17th anniversary!, I was recovered and resolute enough to face exploring some of the area. I insisted on being the driver, and it makes a big difference in my equanimity when I am the driver. We went first into nearby Hill City, a pleasant small town which though tourist-oriented, is not as hokey as many are. We went to the Teddy Bear Museum; about a decade ago, a woman started collecting and displaying teddy bears. After a few years, when she had around 4400, she wrote to the Guinness Book of World Records and acquired the record. She has since broken her record ... read more
