It is a rainy, cold day here today and tomorrow. So, we are pushing on to see what we can in the rain. Yesterday on the way in we saw the Ochsner Park & Zoo. After researching we found it was a free zoo. The site states that the "majority of our animals are either rehabilitated wildlife that are not able to be released or rescued from the exotic pet trade". The Zoo contains playful bears, a variety of owls, sleepy Mexican wolves, a lonely gorgeous artic fox, rambunctious river otters, hidden prairie dogs, a stinky skunk, a majestic eagle, and farm animals. The best part was watching the playful bears run around, climb up trees, flirting with disaster, onto limbs that did not appear like they should be able to hold a bear. After this ... read more

Wisconsin Dells, WI For our third day in a row, it was completely overcast here yesterday. It threatened rain, like it did the days before, all day long, but then seemed to hold it all in for the evening. Sure enough, last night around dusk, it started raining and didn’t stop all night long. It is now 6:30 AM and it is still raining intensely. But while we could, we headed out yesterday for the tourist town of Wisconsin Dells. I have to admit I had never really heard of this place until we started planning this trip. If someone had told me that southern Wisconsin was a tourist trap spot, I don’t think I would have believed it. No-one ever suggested it as a go-to place when I was a kid. But there it was, ... read more

Ginnie and I left PA on Sunday afternoon and are presently in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. We have had a fast uneventful trip so far and the boys have been angels. I'm including a message from them at the end . We plan to be in MN by Thursday morning and will enjoy a little down time before heading for NB for the eclipse on the 21st. The Misadventures of Alfy, Watson, and Linus AWL... Today we all got in this box on wheels that our mom's said to do and we went for a ride, a very long ride. There was all kinds of running around first, stuff going in the box, lots of talking, and all this excitment. Well, we got excited too and ran and ran around in our friends yard. It was fun ... read more

Today--our final destination: Wisconsin Dells. We made it here in record time, ahead of the crowd. The Camaro is running good! All pictures were taken through the window while we were cruising by! My Wisconsin family will be very familiar with our route through Dubuque and Platteville. Then, we passed through Dodgeville and Spring Green before arriving in the Dells. I think the scenery on this route rivals much of what we saw on the rest of our trip! A few more car pictures. . . I'm still looking for my old light blue impala with the surf boards on top. I've seen it several times arriving about the time we were leaving the days' venues. Cute, but I haven't been able to get a picture!... read more

Wisconsin Dells - 5th Day After an early morning goodbye we left Minocqua and drove 3 hours south to Wisconsin Dells, checked into the Great Wolf Lodge then met up with Laurie's brother and his wife and son, Nelson. After spending time catching up and looking at old family pictures we went to downtown touristy Wisconsin Dells. We split up pretty quick because the kids, John, Marleah and Nelson, wanted to go to "Wizard's Quest" and the adults wanted to shop. Wizard's Quest is an interactive game where you run around and solve riddles and puzzles to rescue the trapped wizards. It was a totally fun, fantastical game with hidden doors, slides, trick mirrors, fairies, a castle, unicorns, dragons, and trolls, all based on the elements. It was work trying to keep up with Marleah's 14 ... read more

I'm a little nervous as this is my first blog posting so sorry in advance if this is not like traditonal blogs you usually see. One of my most recent vacations was to the Wisconsin Dells, a trip that made quite a big impression on me. Now, I had never heard of the Wisconsin Dells before going there and honestly thought this was going to be like a farm or something else like that. I even complained a little to my parents asking "why don't we go to Chicago or St. Louis?" Never in my wildest dreams would I have suspected that the Wisconsin Dells would be the Orlando of the north, which it is and much more. In the actual city there were so many things to do. So many cool little shops and neat ... read more

We have really hopped around and covered miles the last three days. Before leaving Springfield, MO we ate our last breakfast there at Mudhouse---a local favorite and then toured Fantastic Caverns for my second time and we had to eat at Andy's Frozen Custard one last time again before we left---nothing like it! We traveled on 255N over the Mississippi River AGAIN and stopped in St. Louis to touch the GI-NORMOUS St. Louis Arch. It was 76 degrees and cooler. Then we crossed the Mississippi again into Illinois. We ate dinner at the Ariston Cafe, the oldest existing restaurant on Route 66 and quite a little gem...the best liver and onions I have ever had and even the kid loved the liver! The elderly guy who runs it inherited it from his grandparents (about a century ... read more

Hello friends! The adventure begins. It is almost eleven at night, and we're all piled up in the van. Our first destination is Dells Wisconsin, and we are driving the 8 hours straight through the night. Marin is already asleep in the backseat, and Henry has a surprising amount of questions. I'm so excited to begin this journey, and explore the country with my friends. I have to do the second leg of driving tonight, maybe I should try and sleep. For some reason I don't see that happening. I'm as excited as the kids. Please stay posted, we have access to the internet 24 hours a day so I will be doing constant updating. Love, Rae... read more
