As Mark Twain once said, "Twenty years from now you be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do.” The adventure I am about to embark actually began about 28 months ago when I decided to pursue a Master’s in Business Administration. The program I chose was the Tech MBA Online through Michigan Technological University located in Houghton, MI. I chose to do this program for three main reasons: 1) It was an accelerated program – a tough 24 months of intense study, but in 24 months it’s all over! 2) It was online – I didn’t have to drive anywhere, I could chose to study as I wanted or however best fit my schedule 3) The final global residency in India. These next few blogs will be about my trip to India, which bring us to the more present start of my adventure.
This journey began on Tuesday, July 9
th based out of my apartment in Oshkosh, WI. I work full time at Oshkosh Defense and have been very busy with many different actions going on at once. So much so, that I had not even begun packing when I had to leave for India the next day! Luckily my mother (recently retired) journeyed to Oshkosh to assist me. And to my surprise, Mr. Markus also made an appearance as he got off work early to come be with me my last night before THE departure. We all went out for dinner and then came back to the apartment to pack. I stayed up until 2 AM the next morning and still had not finished. Given all the excitement and anxiousness, I work up early the next morning and completed the job. After a few errands were ran, Mr. Markus and I were on our way to Chicago in my little Fiesta. My mom stayed back in Oshkosh to finish some stuff for the wedding.
Lucky for me I had discovered a wonderful boutique in Wisconsin Dells, WI called Alpha Beta Karma where I purchased a bunch of flowy, lightweight garments. I was able to get all the outfits for the entire week, plus toiletries, plus gadgets, plus schoolwork all in one bag to check and one backpack. Needless to say, I was very proud of myself and how my packing skills have become so refined over the years (and trips abroad).
When we got to Chicago, I was able to check my back, which, BTW, was UNDER weight. The lady at the counter even noted that “you’re going to India – you know you get up to three checked bags, right?” Understood – but I don’t need to be the stereotypical American who way overpacks, so take that!
Mr. Markus and I ate lunch at a little sandwich shop just outside O’Hare and then the fateful moment had I arrived – it was time for me to enter the abyss known as security and depart from my love; it was time for my India adventure to begin.
