Northpoint lighthouse and museumRain fell during the night but woke to a stunning day here in Milwaukee. Got an early start - with a big day planned touring the city.
Walk around Millers Park - home of the Brewers baseball team. An impressive looking stadium that's for sure. Quiet here today - place was empty which gave us a chance to have a look around and grab some photos.
Drove along to the water front to look at North Point Lighthouse. A pleasant drive along the waterfront took us to the lighthouse at Lake Park. The light house was first built in 1887 and restoration of this historical site was completed in 2007.
The light was taken out in 1997 by the United States Coast Guard - there is also a museum in the Queen Anne style keepers dwelling right next door. Unfortunately the lighthouse wasn't open when we visited today - but I'm sure the views of Lake Michigan would be fantastic from up the top. We had a walk around the area and then took a short walk down to Milwaukee Bay. It was a beautiful morning - plenty of people out taking advantage of the weather - walking, jogging,

Lake front brewery tour playing volley and tennis and canoeing.
Decided to take a tour of the Lakefront Brewery - it has been voted the top brewery tour of the nation. For a $7 admission you get 4 beers, a pint size brewery glass, a voucher for a beer at one of local Milwaukee hotels and the tour guide gives a humorous explanation of the beer fermentation process. Geoff and I have been on numerous beer tours and we would definitely vote this No. 1.
Took the RV into the city centre of Milwaukee - being a Sunday, traffic was at a minimum and it wasn't too hard to find a carpark when needed. We've found the roads in Wisconsin to be very rough and uncomfortable to drive in the RV - even the cities roads are by no means good to drive on! Later we were told that the roads around this part of the country suffer severe westher conditions and most of the damage to the roads is caused by the salt that is poured on the roads during Winter.
On our list of to-do's was Pabst Mansion which is in the city centre. You can only tour the
Lake Front Brewerymansion with a tour guide and we were lucky to make the last tour of the day
at 3pm. The mansion had 37 rooms and 14 bathrooms. Construction of the mansion began in 1890 and took 2 years to complete.
Caption Pabst was the president of the Pabst Brewing Company which was the worlds largest brewer of lager in America. The Pabst Brewing Company no longer exists today although the several of the beers are still made by other brewers in Wisconsin. Captain Pabst and his wife Maria were avid art collectors and the mansion still has many of the priceless art pieces on display in the mansion. The home was also the scene for many fine parties and receptions.
The tour went for an hour and the elderly guide sure was full of information about the history of the Pabst family and their mansion. Photography was not permitted during the tour.
After the mansion tour we went on a hunt to find the statue of "The Fonz" from the TV series Happy Days. We spotted him on the river walk so we took some fun photos with him. Interestingly his statue is placed outside a Chinese restaurant
Lake front breweryon the river walk. We found this strange - would have thought he would have been more at home outside an American Diner - after all The Fonz did put Milwaukee on the map.
Called by at the Harley Davidson Museum to get directions to their factory tour which is about 10 miles or so out of town. After that we was sorted we got ourselves organised for the night. Managed to use the Sani dump at the fairgrounds this evening and then headed back to our overnight stop in the same quiet corner of Walmart as we were last night.
Tomorrow will be a busy day finishing up our itinerary here in Milwaulkee.
