Wisconsin Dells, a city in southern Wisconsin, lies on the Wisconsin River in a region of glacier-carved sandstone formations. Its numerous theme parks and entertainment centers include Noah's Ark Water Park, and Mt. Olympus Water and Theme Park. We camped at Mirror Lake State Park, a forested reserve surrounding the namesake lake, is known for nature trails and camping. The leaves were starting to change into beautiful red and orange colors. We took an afternoon and strolled the downtown area, stopping in many of the souvenir shops. Like so many tourist towns there were many t-shirt and fudge shops. We managed to resist the temptation of both. We took a morning boat ride through the Dells. We sat on the top deck and had a spectacular view of the sights! The boat stopped twice, first at ... read more

Baraboo, WI Not every day can be fun and games. We’ve learned on our travels to build in ‘down days’ which are essentially days we don’t do anything stressful at all. We play cards, take naps, maybe cook a nice meal, possibly a short hike near the campground. These are recovery days we use to rebuild our energy - this traveling stuff can be hard work. But we found in the last year that sometimes down-days get crowded out by necessary chores. Stuff like major piles of dishes in the sink, or the huge bag of laundry that’s been accumulating. If you have to dedicate part of your ‘down-day’ to doing laundry, then it really isn’t a down-day. And, we found, that if you called something a ‘down-day’ and ended up doing laundry and chores, well, ... read more

Devil’s Lake State Park, Baraboo, WI By the time I finished yesterday’s post, the clouds had definitely arrived and it was spitting rain. We hurriedly finished up breakfast and then dishes. I packed up the chairs and outside gear and readied all the equipment to hitch-up. Although we’ve become well versed in hitching and unhitching, it still takes at least 30 minutes, and more the longer we’ve been there since we have more junk to clean-up and pack away. So by the time we actually rolled in the slider, lifted the stabilizing jacks, and started to attach the trailer to the car, it was raining. Hitching up in the rain isn’t one of our favorite activities, but we’ve become accustomed to it and now have towels waiting in the car to dry off. It was relatively ... read more

It's been a while since I wrote a travel blog. Well I am off on an other cruise. This time Karen is coming with and we will be on a much bigger boat than usual, and I wont be driving. We are headed to the Western Caribbean on the cruise ship, Norwegian Spirit. People may wonder if we have any concerns after the Costa Concordia sank off Italy last month. We have more confidence in the Norwegian Captains than Italian Captains so we aren't worried. This is the boat! This is the route. As many of you know Karen isn't so keen on flying, so we will be taking Amtrak to New Orleans. We will be leaving from Wisconsin Dells on Feb 24th and from New Orleans on the 26th. Will try nto add to this ... read more

March 31 - April 2 The Road Home We completed our packing and were ready to start the long trip home at 10:30 AM on Wed. March 31. We made it across the Florida boarder to southern Georgia the first day. Our trip took us around Atlanta and through Chattanooga and Nashville TN. We had dinner the second evening in Paducah, KY near where we started our trip on Kentucky Lake last October. The last day we had a good tail wind as we drove up the length of Illinois. It would have been a good spinnaker run if we had our mast up. We finished our 1,500 mile road trip in Baraboo at 3:30PM on April 2nd. We will be with our loved ones for Easter. Rick and Wayne are still good friends after being ... read more

Ok so I know Devils Lake State Park in Wisconsin isn't all that exotic or exciting, but this is the first time we are climbing outdoors so I am excited! Because winters in Chicago suck so much, we searched high and low for some indoor entertainment. What we found was an indoor climbing gym in a suburb about 30 miles west called Vertical Endeavors. We had a blast climbing and we ended up getting memberships. However, with summer and scuba diving, we soon forgot about climbing (especially climbing indoors). However, I was determined to climb outdoors at least once before winter reared its ugly head and we once again became banashed to the indoors. I picked Nick up from work and we headed to Station 3 so we could meet up with Colin and his fiancee ... read more
