Victor and Jordan singing "In the Jungle"... looks sort of painful ;) Round 2… ding ding!
This morning, the crew and I loaded up in the minivan and headed for … the middle of nowhere… a place also known as Wenatchee. For those of you who haven’t been tracking with me, the kids have been here for just over a week (in Spokane) for rehearsals, and the entire crew- Sarah, Jenn, Kyle and myself were all crashing at my house. It was quite a good time- lots of movies and laughter and we saw Phantom and rode the carousel and did all sorts of other fun things.
Rehearsal week went well. Lots of work! I did my best to program the show as best as I could blind, but we’ll find out tomorrow how well that was in reality. LC was so good to us- in hosting and taking good care and just loving us well. Thanks! Kyle and I finished (ish) our advancing and got other paperwork done and also got to meet the kids and start to get to know them a bit. During our week there, David (also known as TOM) decided it was his job to move the elk and moose around- see pictures. Ruth is also
Crew
Kyle, me, Sarah, Jenn on our way to Phantom of the Opera quite the kick-in-the-pants. A spunky gal from Northern Ireland, she loves to sing (and knows about every song ever written) and dancing and karaoke and just basic goofing off. We’re going to get along just fine.
With lots of work under our belts, we had Sunday off and packed to hit the road- armed with knowing this is what Jesus has entrusted me with, some chocolate, and kind words from friends who believe in me (maybe a bit too much, I fear).
The kids are a kick! A bit smaller (like half the size) of the others, but full of life and loving every minute of it. Everyday they ask the same question, which they think is so funny because so many people ask them, “Do you like huckleberries?” I’ll post some pictures when I can. I’m excited to get to know a whole new group, but a part of me misses the others from last tour. The African adults are also a hoot! Especially Uncle Victor- he’s always laughing and joking and dancing, having a good ol’ time.
So today we got to the venue to load in our stuff, well, just unload the truck, and
Drummers
Joseph, Mirembe, Claudio the TD was there to greet us and had everything set up and ready to go (a great way to start!) The venue isn’t ideal, but certainly workable, and I’m sure we’ll see worse as we go along, and really, the crew seems great, so it all should be good.
For lunch, we found ourselves at an Irish pub (imagine that) for some great wood-fire pizza. Back to the hotel for paperwork and a production meeting with the director, producer, Craig, Prossy (choreography) and the 4 of us. We had a bit of time while others met and just sort of vegged- not that we need down time like that quite yet, but it was still good. I have two phones in my room so Sarah and I played games with people who called because they can’t tell the two of us apart, especially on the phone. I prank called Jenn too, since she had some costume skins fall off her balcony to the one below hers.
Craig found a wonderful ice cream place called Cloud 9 here in Wenatchee. They make the ice cream as you order it. Check it- they put in ice cream mix in
a “KitchenAid on steroids” with whatever else you want in it, and then there’s a poof of stuff, much like haze 😉 which is actually liquid nitrogen! They basically flash-freeze the ice cream! So cool! It’s wonderful; and family-owned by very nice people who we got to chat with. The machines are the only in the world because they were invented here and there are two of these shops in Wenatchee. I’m sure we’ll be around there again soon…
We made a run to Walmart and got the necessary piece of gear to out-smart the hotel people and allow us to plug in our DVD player, and we also hit some dinner. I’m supposed to be rooming with Prossy, but she’s staying with Julia for a few nights, so I’m hosting the movie… and the printer and a lot of Sarah’s junk.
Sorry this is so long; kind of a catch-up from the last week or so. Here are a few highlights:
When the kids arrived at the church, Godfrey told Uncle David, “If I see Auntie Sarah and Auntie Jami I will just faint!”
What I learned today: Field hockey is a really thing. (thanks

Ruth and Sarah rocking to "Wicked" in the kitchen! Jenn)
To pray for: All of us, Sarah, Jenn and I are in jobs we’ve never really done before. Quick learning, lots of grace, and God-given competence are needed.
Enjoy the pics!
