Early morning walk around the neighborhood in Snoqualmie (right out my front door). A lovely late afternoon at Rattlesnake Lake in beautiful North Bend, just 5 miles from our home. I have hiked to Rattlesnake ledge a number of times. But, every time I go to the lake, I'm reminded just how lucky I am to be so close to such a beautiful place.... read more

Lee and Nancy kindly took the day off and drove us East along I90 to visit the waterfall and canyon at Snoqualmie Falls. Packing a lunch, we climbed down to the river level and hung out in the mist for several magical hours before returning to Seattle. Saturday ... read more

Just been to see the Snoqualmie Falls and it is very picturesque. There is not a lot there but the atmosphere is very tranquil and well worth a visit. The water fall has a drop of 270 feet and lands in a 65 foot deep pool. There are two hydro electric plants there. The construction of the first was started in 1898 and the second added in 1910. Between the two stations they generate nearly 42,000 kw which is enough to power around 16,000 homes. I think that the idea of hydro electric power generation is absolutely brilliant but why o why does the building that it is contained in have to be so bloody ugly when the surroundings are so beautiful. One of the doors to the buildings was open and I saw painted on ... read more

Travelled to Snoqualmie Falls about 39 miles from Tacoma with Heather at the wheel of her delightful new car, her dad Dennis a little twitchy at the car's proximity to the traffic in front! Walked to the base of the falls and stopped for a bite to eat on the way back. Did I say bite? You don't get bites in USA, half a buffalo more like it - wow! I thought we'd never eat that BBQ when we get back.................................but we did. Thanks Catharine!! ... read more

Since my photos are on my laptop and Melissa's photos are on her laptop we have to make one entry each to upload photos. So, I apologize for the duplicate notices you will all get each time we update the site. As you know we spent a few days in the North Cascades of Washington. Something Melissa failed to mention is that Sasquatch, aka Bigfoot, is a resident of these mountains. I hoped our wildlife spotting luck would carry over from the griz and that we would run into an equally "friendly" Bigfoot here, but it wasn't meant to be. However, my beard is getting longer and by the end of the trip I might be able to pass for a not-so-big-footed Bigfoot. So, here are a couple photos from our travels here in the Cascades. ... read more

We were up early and on our way from Victoria to Snoqualmie, Washington. This necessitated a two hour ferry ride between Sidney to Anacortes, Washington. The ferry ride was really gorgeous as it weaved between many large islands between Vancouver Island and the US. The drive from Anacortes towards Seattle was smooth but the highway traffic was thick. We didn't get into any mountain driving until we bypassed Seattle. The trip was actually one of our shorter drives. Snoqualmie is one of the small towns in upper Washington State that was home to the cult classic Twin Peaks. Both Eric and I wanted to see the place where the tv series was filmed. The Salish Lodge (The Great Northern on tv) has been turned into a luxury spa. We really wished we had a couple of ... read more

We camped at Silver Springs last night. The girls and I woke up at 7am and put Dot out and went to the bathroom. Then we went for a walk through the center of the campground where a crystal clear creek flows out of the ground. The girls bellied down to drunk out of the creek. the trees there were bigger than the one in our camp. Maybe 300 years or more in age. We are heading to Seattle to drop Jake off. We stopped in Auburn and the girls got to play at a nice water park while we made lunch. The traffic in Seattle was absolutely awful and I was glad to get out. Mom and I drove out to Mt. Baker Snoqualmie N.F. and all the campgrounds were full. So we found a ... read more
