Saturday morning we all got up and got ready to head out. Ian had offered to take me in the ferry to his parent's house in Port Townsend, which is accross the water and all the way north, almost to Canada. Sue dropped us of at the ferry which we barely made by running and dragging my suitcase. We lept on to the boat just as it was ready to pull out. We stayed on the deck and watched the city as we cruised across the water. Ian pointed out landmarks and sealife. Once we landed we walked to Ian's jeep that he keeps on that side of the water. We cruised up to his parents house through beautiful green forests. The air was cool and clean and I kept marveling at all of the green! ... read more

The next morning I woke up to Bryan's cheery voice saying he was on the ferry and on his way to Seattle. I got up and got ready just in time for him to pick me up. It was raining, which just made me feel that I was truely experiencing Seattle. I also enjoyed the cool air since it had been in the high ninties and hundreds for the past few weeks in SLC. We drove around looking for a place to eat breakfast and saw more of Seattle in the daylight. All the while chatting and catching up. We wondered around Pike's Place Market and had a snack at a Thai/Morroccan Restaurant.Bryan wanted me to see the new modern city library. We wandered around admiring the arcitecure and "modernness" of the colors and design. Ian ... read more

Seattle Day 3 Seattle is a little weird but a cool city nonetheless. The first thing that struck me was the 'bus tunnel' the buses are sent underground almost like a subway system underneath downtown. Arrived at the hostel with few navigation hiccups from my part and they let me check in straight away - GREAT! Locked my stuff up abd headed straight out. After getting my bearings in town, i headed down to the waterfront to see what the story was down there. Its pretty cool, all the piers are there (surprisingly!) and loads of food places! Just kept walking as i had no idea where i was going or what i wanted to do so as soon as things start looking a litte less busy i would just make a change in direction. This ... read more

I arrived in Seattle about 1 hour late as my plane was delayed getting out of SLC due to weather and "mechanical difficulties". I planned the visit to see my friend Bryan who is stationed with the Nevy in Bremerton which is accross the water from Seattle. However, at the last minute Bryan found out that his work schedule had changed and that he would have to work the overnight shift the entire time I was visiting. My plan of coming in the late evening so he could pick me up now no longer would work. I emailed my friend Ian who lives in Seattle and whom I had met through his sister, Tamara over Thanksgiving. Ian offered to pick me up from the airport and let me crash at his pad while Bryan worked and ... read more

It was really wonderful to come home just in time for glorious afternoon weather, a perfect welcome, and fireworks on TV! Here's a quick wrap-up of my impressions of travel in Europe. Great stuff in Germany, et al.: * German toilets (use less water and flush better). * Public pay toilets (almost always worth the price). * Euro-style windows (and doors). * Cathedrals. * Sparkling mineral water. * Eisbecher!! * Eierlikör (an essential ingredient in my favorite Eisbechern). * Trains, trams and buses. * Sidewalk bike paths. * Beer gardens. * Their laid-back and healthy attitude about alcohol. * Drea and her friends and family, of course! Stuff I missed about the USA: * Free refills. * Table napkins. * Really cold drinks. Hell, even the ice cream in Germany is lukewarm. * Having "Y", "Z", ... read more

After the conference I got to hang out with my friend of ten years, JJ, in her way hip downtown studio in Seattle. Right across from what she tells me is the "CBGB of Seattle" and some other cool stuff. We have been all over the world hanging out, which includes four months in Ethiopia, a few days in London. Then San Diego, Seattle, DC (where we were housemates for a year), New York, and I am probably missing something else. All to just be together! It was fun to see her and she went to part of the conference too, so it was good to process some of that together. Her being here would be a bonus in moving to the area. Plus, cool new car JJ. I have to get one of those Honda ... read more

I feel overwhelmed with this trip. I needed the renewal so much and its so amazing how much better its been than anything I could have anticipated. The church I spent the week at definately has been experiencing revival in a deep sense. I guess the movement is happening with the young people, because they were some of the happiest and free-est group ever! I made a lot of new friends and saw a lot of old ones. People from around the world were at this conference for this church in the middle of nowhere and letting go of burdens that have followed them their whole life. It was a privelege to be a part of. If I were to choose a place to go after seminary right now I think it would be Tacoma to ... read more

Hi everyone. I have finally arrived all the way to the west coast. The drive out was wellworth it. Definately this part of the country must be the most beautiful. I still haven't been able to connect to my computer to upload pictures but hope I will find a way soon. I got to the conference at the Clover Creek church yesterday. Last year this was the best week of the year. It seems that this year it is shaping up to be pretty close as well. I love this church and the people who go here, I always seem to make good friends there. I almost moved here in winter this time, but it didn't work out. Who knows what the future holds? And again I am seeing old friends at this conference that I ... read more

Getting through the border from BC to Washington was very tough! Just because I had been to the UAE more than 6 months before he got all shitty with me and started asking me 101 questions. Anyway, got through...eventually and that was that. The bus ride was not great, there was some lady on it who stank of ciggies and peed herself. Arriving in Seattle, we headed to our hotel in our hire car, the hotel was in the university district, and it was a bargain, great big room, clean, new, just fabulous. Did some shopping and then went and explored Pike Market, we saw those famous guys throwing the big tunas around, and we pooped into the original Starbucks for a quick fix. We had dinner at Dalia's which was alright, great decor. Going to ... read more
