Weather today was intermittent Showers and temperatures reaching a maximum of 8 degrees Celcius.
Caught the bus downtown and attended another weight watchers meeting. Staff were real friendly - insisting we stay for the meeting and happy to show us around the venue. Its been fantastic having the opportunity meeting other WW staff and members.
From there we walked along Pine Street looking at all the xmas stalls and decorations along the way. We stopped by the Pikes Place Market Place again - it's hard not to keep dropping by - the whole market place has a great vibe about it!
The Pike Market Fish Place, founded in 1930, is an open air fish market located in Seattle, at the corner of Pike Street and Pike Place.
It is known for their tradition of fishmongers throwing fish that customers have purchased, before they are wrapped. After nearing bankruptcy in 1986, the fish market owner and employees decided to become "world famous", changing their way of doing business by introducing their flying fish, games, and customer performances.
Four years later, they were featured repeatedly in the national media and television shows. The store is now a popular
tourist destination in Seattle, attracting up to 10,000 daily visitors, and is often billed as world-famous.
Most of the employees have been working here for around 20 odd years or more and work a 60 hour week - 6.30am - 6pm/5 day week. It's amazing to watch them in action - great team work and such positive attitudes towards their jobs.
Next we headed down to the waterfront where major construction is underway. We intended on visiting Ivar's restaurant famous for its clam chowder but it was closed because of all the construction so we had lunch at the "crab pot" instead.
This restaurant is known for its Seafood feasts where white paper is put down on the table and a big pot of fresh Seafood is tipped onto the paper. Customers are given paper bibs to wear and a mallet to crack open their fresh crab legs.
We chose to share a starter of salmon chowder and then a main of Stuffed Red Rock Cod With potatoes and brocolli. We enjoyed views of the pier while eating our meal. It was super filling and Geoff and I shared a litre of Alaskan Amber ale with
the meal. Cost for the meal was $50 including the tip.
Leaving the Crab Pot we headed up to 1st Avenue to visit the Mt Rainier Harley Davidson Store. Have to say this is nothing to talk about and I commented to Geoff that the girl working in the shop had the personality of a dead fish....Geoff disagreed - saying a dead fish had more personality! Anyway Geoff got himself a patch and a pin so he was happy.
Next stop was the Seattle Public Library on Spring Street - quite a hike up the hill - thought we were in San Fran for a moment there. This Library is funky looking on the outside and even funkier inside. It has 10 levels and the escalators are all bright green. Level 5 of the Library is 7 shades of red - kinda does your head in! The library has loads of computers for customers to use and each floor was totally packed. Well worth a visit if you are in Seattle.
Our last activity for the day was "the underground tour" in Pioneer Square. This tour is rated as the number 1 activity in Seattle. Tickets are
$18 each and the tour goes for 75 minutes.
The underground tour is a leisurely, guided walking tour beneath Seattleās sidewalks and streets. As you roam the subterranean passages that once were the main roadways and first-floor storefronts of old downtown Seattle, the guides entertain you with the stories from the pioneer days.
Bused it home and grabbed a coffee from the local Starbucks near home at Broadway. We were back at the B&B by 8pm...hoping for an early night and early start tomorrow morning ??
