Mel’s DinerWhat a wonderful hotel. The rooms were suite rooms with a complete kitchen. We all had a much needed great night of sleep.
Our hotel didn’t provide breakfast so we found the “best breakfast in Yakima” at Mel’s Diner. It was a cute place with old car pictures and memorabilia from the 50’s and 60’s. They had backs of old cars that had a bench seat in the. Plus it was a great breakfast!!
Following breakfast we headed to Walmart for an oil change and a chance to restock our cooler. Since we left home we have driven 3,849 miles…..all driven by Terry.
As we were driving from Yakima to Seattle we notice barren land on both sides of the road. We couldn’t figure it out until we saw a sign “Military Area”. We drove around the hill and graded down the valley and the land was incredibly beautiful and fertile. We could see grapes, cherries, corn, cows, gardens for miles. While the hillside on both sides of the road were brown and barren the valley was just the opposite.
Off in the distance we could see a mountain range. It looked snow covered. Karen looked it
Old car seatup and said it was the Wenatchee Range. Once we got closer we could tell it was not snow covered.
When we arrived in Seattle our first stop was the space needle. We were so fortunate to find a great parking spot with plenty of room for our vehicle. We are driving Terry’s Chevy Suburban with a carrier on the back(for fishing gear). It makes us be 20ft 4 in long which makes parking a little tricky.
We went up the space needle but sadly it was not a very clear day. We had hoped to see some if the mountain ranges, particularly Mt Rainier. It was still a beautiful view of the city.
Our next stop was Pike Place Market. It’s a huge farmers market with tons or shops and crafts. It’s built in the waterfront so several restaurants have great views if the sound. We ate at a restaurant, Lowell’s, famous for their clam chowder served in a bread bowl. They did not disappoint. Terry and I also shared their fish and chips. It was some if the best fish I’ve ever eaten.
We walked by the very first Starbucks which is right across
Crossing in to Washington from the market. Ed wanted to get coffee there but the line was out the door and down the street.
We bought a nice variety of fruits from the market as we almost always pack our lunches for the car ride each day. Also we will be staying two nights at our next place in Portland so we will probably cook a meal.
Our trip to Portland was not an easy one for Terry. While the guys loved driving by the Mariners and Seahawks stadiums and looking at the various bodies of water, it was high traffic time and it didn’t take us long to find the traffic. Terry hates driving in traffic and this was the end of work drive time….extremely busy and coupled with road work. On top of that gas was $3.99 a gallon and even higher.
Our place for the night is in a residential area with super nice outdoor space. Tomorrow we drive up the Columbia River, we look for Mt St Helen and who knows what activities we will find.

I'm Getting Excited!
The place you are staying looks great! I hope the trip is not work!!! Enjoy this round of your life. Did you get to the Redwoods? Awesome what God can do! I like Russell Wilson. I didn't know you were related. I don't care for the Sea Hawks fans. They are blood thirsty, in my opinion. I am truly enjoying the blog. PLEASE , PLEASE FISH IN THE COLUMBIA RIVER, TERRY AND DAN. Hi Karen! Love you all, Nanci
