blog 09-15-17 La Conner to Ocean City, WA 9:30 am, it's a new record for us. The camper was packed and pulled out of our campsite (picture) with Ginnie at the wheel and I drove the car to the entrance area to make hooking up easier. By 9:45 we were on the road ready to tackle "the 5". Out here they refer to their interstates as "the 5" or "the 25", whatever the number. The 5 runs past Seattle and Tacoma and is notoriously bad, so we were ready to be patient and just go with the flow or non flow. It didn't turn out to be terrible only a few stops and starts, and before long we were close to Ocean City but couldn't get the gps or google to direct us to the campground, ... read more

Report from the Road; Uncle Joe’s shakedown cruise. We recently acquired a HitchHiker 5th wheel. This is a report of our shakedown cruise on the west side of the Olympic Peninsula. We left port Monday morning May 12, 20009 about 11 a.m.; hitched up and headed west for the Pacific Ocean. We found the day loaded with drizzle. The Beast has a gps navigation system that provides vocal turn-by-turn narration to a destination. We arrived at the Dunes RV Resort in Copalis, WA, notwithstanding the turn-by-turn narration. “At the next intersection make a legal U-turn.” Right away, we knew “the Voice” was lost. So we ignored her and made our way according to memory. As I type this report (which may be interrupted by toddy time), I’m sitting on the starboard side at the desk, looking ... read more

My parking space in Ocean Shores RV Resort is just great, there are dense spruce forests all over this area, so the sites are cut into the forest; I can’t even see my neighbors although they are only about 40’ away. I spent Friday catching up with some of the things I had neglected over the past three weeks—including my blog! On Saturday I ventured out. It’s a half mile walk to the beach from where I am parked but the town is about 2½ miles and I needed a couple of grocery items so I drove in via the Ocean Shores State Park beach. I was surprised to see cars and RVs parked on the beach. I sat on a piece of drift wood and watch the waves for about an hour before heading into ... read more

Supporting Cast: Sue: My kidnapper and Cheuffer Nemo: Her 3-year-old daughter Mike: My partner in all things We grabbed a change of clothes, piled into Sue's car and were off to Ocean Shores. The drive there was Nemo The Musical, as the 3-year-old was making up songs: "Mike no swiping Mikes a swiper, Mike no swiping! Bollocks" Mike was in the back with her, there was much squealing as they played "rib countings." We all did a few cover songs; Sue used her all-powerful Mommy Voice on Mike a couple times for breaking into shanties a bit too risque for young minds with good memorization skills. Nemo, as with all children, was mortified by her parent singing. I think its just on principle, Sue has a lovely voice and has garnered much applause at karaoke. We ... read more
