What a busy drive it was today. We hit Portland during rush hour and it took quite some time to get through. Once we got to the I-84, it was clear sailing. We decided to stop and have dinner at McMenamin’s Edgefield, but when we got there it was packed. We decided we didn’t have enough time to wait around so off we headed..East. We ended up in The Dalles at Cousins restaurant. This is a restaurant that my parents stop at every time they come up this way. I have been a few times and was not very fond of it (eating out just isn’t my thing). Well anyway, Theo was starved so we stopped. I ended up having a cup of French Onion soup and a side salad. OMG!! That soup was soooo good. ... read more

KMS: 586 Temp: Sunny and hot! Soo....here we are in Kennewick WA. Had the usual fun time finding a suitable hotel but more on that later. We started off at about 10am and promptly became stuck in a long line of traffic heading south on Hwy 97 due to construction at Summerland. We were right above North Okanagan Park - where James is camping. When I texted him to say we were right above him, he answered "really." Hmm...not too interested to run up to the highway to see him mom and dad off. We sat in the line up for about 30 minutes. Once it started moving we pulled the obnoxious biker move of riding the shoulder to the front of the line then off we go! Next stop was the border crossing.... Rusty went ... read more

Today was a hot day of riding. Right now I am not sure what the temperature was, but I would guess at times it was 90+ Fahrenheit. Some of you may know I have more to look forward to, probably 100+ degrees plus throw in some humidity. Those relatives better be worth the torture from the weather! Nebraska here I come! Right now I am killing a little bit of time before I head over to the Dorsings’ house. I am sitting at Potholes State Park outside Othello, and it is quite pleasant. I think it is actually much hotter while I am riding the bike at 70mph in the sun than it is while I am sitting in the shade. It is temping to wear only a t-shirt while I ride in the heat, but ... read more

Last night I hung out with the Dorsing family. They have 3 kids under 6 years old, and I must say I enjoyed all of them. From the time two of them opened the front door to the house and welcomed me in, I had such a good time. These were some of the nicest kids I have met. Instantly they meet a new person, and they were not shy one bit. It was one of those situations that you can just let your guard down and feel right at home. I was given a tour of the farmland that Kevin works on, and I now know about 5000% more about cherry and blueberry farming than I did before. I say this in a good way, because all of it fascinates me! I think the science ... read more

I'm on the bus to Texas, from where I will leave for the Philippines on August 15. I just have to say that Greyhound transports some of the most interesting passengers. Interesting here is not supposed to conjure up an image of persons you'd delight to converse with for hours, mesmerized by their wit and class. No, rather, it is meant to be in connotation with people who talk about their drug addictions and arrests with complete strangers while they wait to board. People who are running away from death threats of angry relatives. People who used to be a different gender (oh, wait, that was last time)… Unfortunately, my laptop battery is going dead already, but oh man do I love my computer! During a boring layover, I happily checked my e-mail. ... read more
