We were up very early this morning. Both of our phones started ringing with robo calls at 5 AM. OK, so they thought we were on EDT. But 8 AM is still too early for a robo call. Are we not all still waiting for the day when these calls cease once and for all? 5 AM. So of course it woke the dog too, and he figured it was time to get up and go for a walk. And so, our day began. We left the hotel at 7:45 and 61 degrees and headed west. Our target for today was Everett, WA, which is a town just north of Seattle. However, we had a plan to get there via Mount Rainier National Park. And that is what we did. When we left Walla Walla, we ... read more

We are still on UK time, so when I woke up it was 3.30am in Seattle. I decided to do the usual sad photographer thing and make use of the time to get some early morning photos. I headed for Kerry Park, which is where all the pictures of the Seattle skyline seem to be taken from. The walk there did not take as long as I had expected. I had about an hour to wait before the sky started to lighten, so I watched all the cruise ships coming and going, presumably to and from Alaska. Sadly the conditions were not that good and any photographs just seemed dull and overcast. Some other photographers arrived and explained that this was all due to the smoke from the multitude of fires around this side of the ... read more

Living in a beautiful environment calls for enjoying the beautiful environment and so that was the case for today. Onto the sailboat early we ‘motored’ slowly around Puget Sound but not before we had dropped the crab cages in David’s favourite area. It proved to be highly profitable as the four cages each had more than 8 crabs. Every crab was measured with the illegal sized crabs being returned to whence they had come. 6 very good sized legal crabs were kept... and ultimately cooked back at the house. While we waited for the cages to fill we headed to where the seals were; most sunning themselves on large logs tied together and anchored to the seabed. This brought much joy to all on board. We were very close to the Navy docks so we were ... read more

A memorable day in that we reacquainted with long time special friends, Michele and David, who we had not seen since spending Christmas with them in Maui, Hawaii, in ’86. We continued where we left off; laughing. Naturally, we reflected and laughed even louder! We had said goodbye to our wonderful hosts and friends, Al and Robert, early in the morning. D+M drove us into Seattle to watch celebrate “Seafair” on Puget Sound, with the “Blue Angels”, the US Navy’s flight demonstration squadron roaring overhead. The aviators, from the Navy and Marines, flying F/A – 18 Hornets, performed for nearly an hour, doing sensational manoeuvres and formations. At the same time, in between looking skywards, we watched the annual Seattle Tennis Open beside the Seattle Tennis Club. We didn’t waste time in enjoying our new environment. ... read more

Hello friends, colleagues and supporters, What would it be like if I didn't have to answer any emails? What if for a certain period of time I didn't have to hear my text alert, my ringtone, or an alarm waking me up 30 minutes early so I could check my email before rushing off to class? What changes would occur inside if I could spend some uninterrupted time in the outdoors, looking up into the sky, feeling the cool breeze on my face, and smelling the sea air in the early morning, smiling? What would it be like to Reset the rhythm of my life to be more in alignment with my belief system, my values, and my idea of health? These are things I want to give away in the name of health. These are ... read more

Sailing Offshore: We didn't know how much time it would take to complete our first ocean passage from Everett, WA to San Francisco, but we figured it could take up two weeks or a month depending on the wind. Our 30 gallon fuel supply would only take us about 350 miles so we needed to sail most of the 900 miles. Mother Nature would be our close companion. She was kind in the beginning with a decent wind. But as the days progressed her wind calmed and we sat drifting. The rigging would noisily bang around, it was driving us batty. Next she started increasing her wind over a few days to 35+ knots. We had to test our sailing ability off the cold west coast. Fortunately we survived and in 9 days made landfall in ... read more
