Geo: 46.997, -120.549We left Vancouver this morning at 8:10 AM and 68 degrees and began by retracing the route that had taken us to Vancouver from Seattle. It is the only route…down I-5. We spent about 20 minutes at the boarder stop…again the border agent was surprised to hear we had driven all the way from Florida. Are we nuts? Perhaps. The plan for today was to try and see Mt. Rainer. The forecast was for cloudy skies and snow above 8500 feet. We were not at all optimistic about having a good view, or any view at all, of the mountain, but we decided to take our chances and go for it. For the third day in a row, we drove through the Skagit River Bridge detour. This time I got a photo of the ... read more

We left Missoula this morning around 11:30 MST. It was a rough trip today...a lot of construction, and windy weather. I think the total yesterday brought us to 2,243 miles traveled. Today we traveled 361 miles bringing our total to 2,604 miles. We arrived in Ellensburg, Washington around 7:00pm PST. We are camped out at a Days Inn that has RV parking. We have water, electric & sewer hook up. I got motion sick again today...the wind is undescribable out here. Larry really fought the wind a lot and really feels it a lot in his arms & shoulders. BUT...we saw a lot of beautiful countryside too! I took more pictures, however, I'm still having difficulty loading to this site. And, truthfully...by the time we stop for the night, I'm too tired to frigg around with ... read more

8 September 2010 0705 (GMT -7) Ellensburg, WA "When I was here, I wanted to be there. When I was there, all I could think of was getting back into the jungle." -CPT Willard, Apocalypse Now Well, I'm home. And it is raining outside. Al Hamdu Lillah. Accordingly, this will be my last entry here. But first, there is some business to attend to. I left Israel for Cairo on Tuesday evening. As before, I flew between the two cities via Istanbul because, apparently, Orbitz doesn't own a globe. To put it in perspective, that is something akin to flying from Washington DC to New York via Chicago. Descending into Istanbul, I saw one of the most spectacular lightning storms that I've seen in some time. I had never seen lightning from such altitude, and was ... read more

Good Morning. Tomorrow will begin what, for me, will be something of an adventure. I will be departing my university in the United States for Cairo, Egypt, where I will spend the summer. To begin with, a little about myself. I am a graduate student studying Middle East history. Specifically, the focus of my program is the modern ME - say, from 1914 until the present - although my personal interests include history slightly more ancient, such as the Greek and Roman influence in the region. I will make this disclaimer up front, Ancient Egyptology is not a strong suit of mine, nor is it of significant interest to me. Don't get me wrong, there are definately some fascinating aspects of ancient Egypt, but pyramids, pharaohs, and the pantheon of gods just don't quite do it ... read more
