Today the exchange group was summoned to the police station. Fortunately, it was for all the right reasons. Chris Cammock was gracious enough to set up and guide a tour of the Mount Vernon Police Station. We got the VIP treatment as we were able to go behind the scenes for a look at every aspect of the operation. Two way mirror interrogation rooms, holding cells, police motorcycles, tossing kids in the back of the squad car, and punching the teachers in the mat room covers a little of what we were able to see and do. A great bonus was watching a police dog demonstrate an attack on an assailant. The discipline of that dog was amazing! From the police station it was off to the bowling alley for some more fun! We took over ... read more

So... Friday was a FULL day! First, the German students made duct tape wallets with one of the 7th grade Edison students. They turned out great. Then...Joel Brock came in and with the help of three of the host mothers, screened more than 60 shirts for our exchange. Once the Welcome Dinner kicked in, there was a frenzy with all the shirts and the kids signing. It was VERY fun. They just kept circulating and circulating. I loved to just stand by and watch. The Welcome dinner was a success and very yummy and the kids were very well behaved. Today was mellow and the teachers all went to Bellingham to see the Sculpture Park. Tomorrow is the police station and bowling....... read more

Today was a “free day” for those on the exchange. The teachers took full advantage of this opportunity! Monika, Irena, Jochen and I toured “Tulip Town” to take in the sights. The tulips were not fully in bloom yet, but then again, either were the crowds! It was still quite an impressive sight as they were about 80% in bloom. The colors were rich and vibrant and the weather cooperated brilliantly. It is interesting to note that I grew up here in the valley, and today was my first trip to Tulip Town as well. From here we drove north on Chuckanut Drive to “The Woods” coffee house in Fairhaven to meet Heidi and Jill for a cup. After a tour of Boulevard Park and stroll down the pier, the six of us were off to ... read more

So far so good! The Edison- Hamburg Exchange is rolling right along! The students of Edison who are participating in the exchange celebrated the beginning of Spring Break with a warm welcome dinner for our German guests. Everyone arrived at the Gischer household around six. By everyone, I mean about 100 people! It was reminiscent of the farewell dinner two years ago in Hamburg. The students laughing raucously downstairs and crowding the basketball court in the cul-de-sac outside while adults conversed comfortably upstairs. A delicious dinner was prepared by our gracious host Carianna which everyone enjoyed! During the evening the students autographed each other's shirts. The downstairs became a tangled mass of perpetual motion as everyone hurried to gather signatures. After this was sufficiently completed, we moved on to hand out the welcome bags that the ... read more

25.3. Morgens nomaler Schulbesuch, die deutschen Sc... read more
