Goodbye Tidewater, VA - hello adventure! After our weekend in Virginia Beach, attending our good friends, Lester and Arlyn's wedding, we woke up Monday morning at Hospital Point, the start of the ICW (Intercoastal Waterway) on our journey south. After dodging a tug and a carrier, we were enveloped with fog. That slowed us down a bit, but it lifted within about a half hour. Next, we came upon bridges and then to our first lock at Deep Creek. What an experience. It was actually alot of fun. Our lock tender played a conch shell for entertainment. His dog, U-turn, hunted up a mole, terrified Hanna, and slobbered everywhere. We led a pack of five boats south down "The Ditch", tapping submerged logs all the way to the Visitors Center just into North Carolina, where we met some great folks from Canada, walked Hanna on her leash, cook a steak dinner and retired for the night. All in all, things went pretty well for our first day.
