Kim left on Monday. Today is Friday. Her hearing with the town of Sea Bright did not go as well as planed due to some legal issue or another, and she will have a reschedule date once those issues get ironed out. It has not been an easy go for her since superstorm Sandy. I have had 5 days to do absolutely nothing and that’s what I have done; absolutely nothing. I did not make my Fitbit goal any day. I did stretch and exercise with weights once. I walked over to the rec hall 3 days to watch General Hospital, as the air antenna reception here sucks Before I left home, I downloaded movies and entire TV series from both Netflix and Prime - thank goodness. Netflix’s “The Five”, a British crime drama, was really ... read more

Hello, loyal readers. I know I owe you an ending to Quest for The Stamp, and I promise I will give it to you by the end of this trip. I have a lot of unposted fun pictures I need to share from that trip, and a trip wrap up. For the past few years, the camping girlies have been meeting at Thousand Trails Chesapeake Bay Preserve, Gloucester, VA, for a week of eating and sightseeing. This year, Kathy and Ginnie are on their own trip, kind of like a Pacific Ocean or bust trip. They left the east coast mid August, traveling in Ginnie’s RV, towing her car, 2 ladies, 3 dogs, and, from Kathy’s blog, they are having a wonderful time. They are at the mouth of the Columbia River now, and plan on ... read more

After an amazing lie-in which took up most of the morning, I groomed Polly some more and chatted to Simon on Skype (with the cat, Katie, sat on my keyboard). After some fresh corn on the cob for lunch, David's piano teacher and her family came over. Olga and Sasha moved from Russia in 1991 and weren't even allowed to bring piano music with them. They have a daughter, Arena, who now works in DC but was home for a holiday, and a son Carey who did a masters in engineering at Oxford Brookes and lives abour 5mins from my flat next year. He works for Renault designing Formula 1 race cars, which I think must be one of the flashiest jobs around. We all took the Evans' yacht out into the York River to enjoy ... read more

Tom drove Alice to the airport to catch her flight at 6am this morning, so we all said our goodbyes last night. One of the main features of the Pathfinders programme is that you do some independent travelling, so I guess it's time I strike it out alone. We've had a hilarious 3 weeks together as well as got to know each other better – apparently I talk in my sleep; Alice sings in the shower. Had bfast and jammed everything into my bag. This gets harder every time, and now I have an extra spillover bag. I had bfast and said goodbyes before driving off to the Atlanta History Centre. This was my first time trying to drive and map rad at the same time in the US and it was a complete disaster. I ... read more

From Marion I had a 400 mile trek up to Gloucester, Virginia. I had a full week ahead here too. A few years ago I had read James Michener’s book “Chesapeake” and wanted to go see Chesapeake Bay, in addition to visiting Jamestown, Williamsburg and Yorktown. What was I thinking? There is just too much to see and do. I don’t know much about the American Revolution; or the Civil War for that matter; a person could spend a week here just acquiring some of that knowledge. The scenery is something else. I ran out of time and will have to cross the Chesapeake Bay via the famous bridge/tunnel some other time. There are two different entities in the Colonial Triangle area. The National Parks Service put emphasis on the historic buildings etc. They have exhibits ... read more
