I moved to the Washington DC on business for a few years back in the 80s. I have stayed in touch with a few of my favorite people from that time. So, before leaving NYC, I made a trip down to see my good friends Jim and Jeff. They left DC about a decade ago and are currently living in Danville, Virginia. They gave me a walking tour of Duke University and Danville, and they fed me some spectacular dishes. Jeff is a gourmet cook and both Jim and Jeff are passionate about history, culture, and the fine arts. Their home is a living museum where each original painting, sculpture, Oriental rug, or other artifact was carefully selected and has an accompanying story which they will share if prompted. As noted above, Martinsville wore me out. My goal for today was to do absolutely nothing except relax. I succeeded. Fall Creak Farm has no stimulation whatsoever, except a hot bath and a beautiful setting. I was very refreshed by the end of this day. After dark I drive into town for more Southern cooking, which I found at a diner. It was warm enough to drop the top, and the stars made paying attention to the road another challenge. The ride to Danville was very wet. The rain was so heavy I could barely see the road markings. But I made it here safely. I ate a going away supper with my parents and grandmother. I also said goodbye to my aunts and uncle. I missed the red Love event of the night though. There was a little get together at Jerry Meadors place. Since I missed the event, I will try to get a picture of Jerry's creation, the North Theatre, on the way out of town tomorrow and post it on the site. It will definitely be a worthy future travel destination. Tomorrow, Bean and I will drive to northern Virginia.
