I woke up in bed with Claudia today which is always a good way to start the day. However it was at 6 AM. Not so great. We said our goodbyes and headed in opposite directions as she went north to Boston and I started my journey south. By 10 AM I'd been in four different states. I finally made it into DC around 1 PM today. I met up with David R., a kid I use to work with back at Brandeis. He graduated in 2005 and has spent the last two years on the the island of Barbuda in the Caribbean with the Peace Corps. We spent the afternoon in his amazing apartment in NW DC and he let me in on all the little details, frustrations, and joys of being a Peace Corps ... read more

So, we just set up our blog. We're ecstatic about our upcoming trip to the South Pacific. Over the past decade or so we've both been in school/residency/postdoc fellowship (and you've been wondering when the heck we'll be done!) and while indeed we've had our share of sh*ts and giggles, for the most part we've been waiting to really celebrate our 'freedom'! You know the 'we should start having kids' has crossed our minds so before we go down THAT road ... we wanted to cut loose first! So here it is. We are going on our dream vacation (for now!) - We've been planning for a while and now we have it set - Tahiti - Moorea - Bora Bora - NEW ZEALAND!!!!! - Australia!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL We wanted to start a blog so that we ... read more

We are safely back in Arlington after catching back-to-back red-eye flights (Brisbane to L.A. and L.A. to BWI). We are a little weary, but a much more worldly and we got here with all our luggage. Amazing! I did not have computer access while in Australia (the beaches were too nice anyway), and so I didn't know the Travel Blog site had crashed the day we left Vietnam. Most of my entries were lost, but can be recovered. It will just take some time and I'll attempt to do this over the next couple of days between opening 7 weeks of mail, unpacking, and doing laundry. I will also add new entries on Australia and Thailand (a story you will not want to miss). I will not send e-mail alerts when each blog entry is reposted, ... read more

So I'm here in DC still, it's so hot I can barely stand to be outside during the day, but I've given some motorcycle-tours at night and in the morning. The other day I jetted up to Bob's BMW in Maryland and got myself a new tire. Dave, one of the mechanics kept asking if I wanted these various little rubber plugs or plastic caps put in to replace the pipe cleaners or duct tape I was using to improvise. So I ended up getting some things fixed up and a new tire, and some new handgrips I'll have to install myself once I get the right size hex key... for the low low price of $212. But it was nice to have someone check everything and say "you know there's all kinds of things I ... read more

Well I am now in Washington DC. More appropriately, the metro area thereof... Arlington, VA. My last post was in Connecticut! Wow... so much has happened since then. But then, the time has flown by so fast I haven't bothered to post anything. Grandma's house was relaxing, but I wasn't supposed to spend much time there either. I love my Grandma, she's so cute and it's amazing to hear her talk about her life and how much things have changed since she was young. And she's seen so much! From farm life in Massachussetts to being a teacher, taking car/trailer trips all over the US, and then taking world-tour cruises once she retired, she has experienced a lot. She told me she went on a voyage to South America on a freighter! Gotta love those cheap ... read more

For those who don't know me well, I'm addicted to the idea of travel. Not so much traveling itself, but planning and reading about exotic places. I'm even starting classes this fall to get my travel and tourism certification. Do I need it? Will I ever use it? Nope. Except to plan my own travel and maybe learn how to get someone who speaks English on the phone at the port authority in Puerto Rico. My husband's favorite place is Barnes and Noble. Or Books A Million. Or pick any bookstore chain that discounts. And everytime he goes, I am inevitably dragged along, kicking and screaming. But I buy at least 4 books to his every 1. And the last couple of days I've been burying myself in my travel books: Puerto Rico, Florida Keys, Charleston, ... read more

We are finally off! Because of the cancelled flights discovered on Tuesday, we have been e-mailing and phoning our travel agent for three days and didn't get the final details nailed down until this morning. I just want to thank Eugenia and Daniel at Airtreks for making the extra effort to get this all straightened out before we left. Thanks guys. The net gain is now we have to spend one night in Bangkok, Thailand in between Sri Lanka and Vietnam. Good thing we all love Thai food. It'll be one more experience to talk about and one more country to check off the life list for the kids. Adios.... read more

Once again, I am stuck in an airport. It seems to me I am always getting stranded, though it doesn't usually happen this early in the morning. Or when I'm at home. Yes, folks, I'm stuck at Reagan. Delayed by over two hours now. Long enough for me to be able to go home and go back to bed. So what did I do? Bought access to their wireless and booted up, of course! What else is a girl to do when stuck in a crowded airport that has no shopping? You know, I really despise airports that don't do their wifi for free. The tiny airport I used to fly out of when Jerry lived south of here had the entire airport wired free of charge. I miss little airports, but the fares are so ... read more
