January 4th, 2009 Today was our first full day in Vermont and it's not over yet. We spent the day exploring the town and getting used to the cold. Woke up to the beautiful view out our little deck area, and then decided to go for a walk to see the town. It was good to be able to enjoy the air after spending yesterday in the car. Our little home in the mountain is coincidentally on Mountain Rd/Vermont 108. We went to the lodges library and pool first to see what that is all about and then set out along the road. We walked past Pie in the Sky, Baggy Knees, and over a little covered bridge. We came to Main St/Vermont 100 which is where many of the shops in town are located. ... read more

January 3rd, 2009 Today we woke up and were greeted by 4" of fresh snow! Too bad our skiing destination was over 6 hours from where we were. We got out of bed and enjoyed a delicious breakfast prepared by Jess' aunt and uncle. After a cup of tea, I went out to clean off the car and get us re-packed. I loaded up the car, and with a little help from Jess' uncle, we got rolling out the driveway and we were off on our way. Stowe, here we come! The snow made us both very smiley, and we were both getting very excited. After what seemed like decades of driving, we finally crossed the border (rather un-dramatically, given the one tiny sign that welcomed us to Vermont) into the state of our destination. Only ... read more

Welcome to our travels! This trip begins in Mohnton, Pa, will make a quick stop in Cincinnatus, Ny to catch up with some family and then we are headed to Stowe, Vermont for a week of skiing and exploring. January 2nd, 2009 We still weren't ready to ski yet. I was still in need of gloves, ski poles (slightly important), and a mask, and Luke needed boots. Yeah we realized we were leaving for New York, but things always work out in the end. We got the car all packed and headed out to Buckman's to get the last of our ski gear. We stopped at Wawa for some snacks as well as AAA for a map...which we probably should have gotten a New York map too, but whatever. Left Reading around 1:00pm. Finally we got ... read more

Goin down the only road I've ever known.... Okay, well maybe its not the only road I've ever known but this travel fever is deep in my blood and in my veins and I'm not sure if or when it will ever leave (and to be honest I'm not sure I ever want it to!). I've been back for three months and damn, soo much has happened but then again so much hasn't. I've been applying for jobs in Africa ever since I got home and always had the same reply - "You need your master's"! Okay, great, its not that I don't want my master's cause I do it's just that I don't have the funds for it (nor for housing or anything else for that matter, at least not now!). I spent all my ... read more

Winter Break in Stowe this year was the best ever. Snow was in abundance, weather was nice, and EVERYONE WAS IN STOWE! Days on the mountain and nights at the Matterhorn, the Shed, and Ladies. A big crew from Watitoh was there as Kyle has moved to Stowe for the season and Adam Rickel flew in from Florida. Other unexpected Stowers were Ritchie Scheim, And the usuals, Kligers, Dubrovskys, Saskins, Newpols, Jospes, and everyone else... We all missed, Cappy, Plug and Congz.... read more

Finished exploring Boston (which we really liked) with a tour of the music shops and bookshops. Persuaded Michael to buy a pair of RayBans in Macey's! Visited various places on the freedom trail some of which were shopping arcades and food malls! Left Boston and drove North calling at Lake Sunapee and Woodstock on route passing through large expanses of pine forests. Arrived in Stowe just in time to catch the last sights of a vintage car rally (their 50th) which blocked most of the streets. Some beautiful old cars though - Mustangs included. Spent today exploring Stowe which has a general store and some quaint little shops. Went up the local mountain (ski runs in winter) in a gondola to get a better view (4000 feet approx) and drove across the valley, very attractive. Michael ... read more

After Burlington we headed south to Killington-Pico to meet our friend Robyn and her son Brady. Again the ride was gorgeous. Vermont is truly an amazing state. The time I spent there has me itching to hike the Long Trail someday. While we were only with Robyn and Brady for a short time, we had a great time. Once the kids went to bed we sat up telling stories about our families, vacations, and life. I think all of our stomachs hurt from laughing all night. After breakfast the next morning we headed back to Johnstown, NY to get ready for the RV ride to Virginia. ... read more
