Geo: 40.2981, -111.695Today is my son's 44th birthday. Happy Birthday, Scott.Today was the day we were not really looking forward to because we crossed Nevada from one side to the other, and anyone who has done this knows it is difficult to get inspired to take photos. The landscape is monochromatic and does not provide a lot of food for the camera. But I did take some photos to document our trek. We left Reno at 6:45 and 61 degrees with clear skies. The temps fluctuated all day long, up and down, as high as 90 degrees and as low as 60. We did not experience a lot of elevation changes, so I am not certain what caused it. No pictures to go along with today. We started the morning by getting most of Scott's stuff packed up. We then killed time getting gas and the car washed while Scott played piano for a girl's singing final. After that, the massive mission shopping trip began. Wow, I didn't realize how much it cost to outfit a missionary. Because he will be walking a ton and he has always had problems with wearing cheap tennis shoes, we spent the most of getting him really good shoes. It was amazing how much we were able to accomplish in a single day. For dinner, we were joined by Dublin friends Patria, Matthew, and Hannah. This morning when we woke up, the wind was howling and it was very gloomy looking outside. By the next time we looked out the window, it was snowing fairly hard and the wind was still blowing like crazy making visibility low. We had breakfast and packed up more quickly than we originally intended to try and get on the road as quickly as possible. A quick Internet search showed that I-80 had been closed 3 days earlier due to snow, but that as we traveled west, this snow seemed to diminish. The road conditions when we left the hotel were a bit icy and slushy. We decided we would take it slow and easy and deal with what came, when it came.
