Off to Bryce canyon. The trip started out with desert but after a while the landscape changed and we found ourselves driving through canyons and Very nice views and a relief after the desert. We did at some time have a funny experience - suddenly in the middle of nowhere there were hundreds of windmills on a hilltop, quite impressive. We could began to see the red rocks that we have seen on pictures of Bryce Canyon. Luckily the trip was not as long as we anticipated always nice when it’s that way round. We got an ok room but it faced the road and after looking around a bit Paul went and asked if we could get one facing the lake away from the road - alas it wouldn’t be free until tomorrow so we would have to wait and move all our gear. The children liked the place and Eskil and Tine went to the indoor pool for an hour or so, Tine sat outside keeping watch but couldn’t really stand being in the pool area because of the chlorine smell. Glad we had 3 nights here. Went into the national park for dinner at Bryce
canyon lodge. After dinner it was off to bed and sleepy eyes.

As we didn’t have any breakfast arrangement here, we just bought some bread (very sweet?) and a bit of ham and Philadelphia (cream cheese - but more or less the only one we know in DK and the one the children like) and milk - coffee was provided by the motel;-)
And it was laundry day - couldn’t wait and at this time of day everything was free. Paul had put up a clothes line in the whole room, and it wasn’t such a bad idea, because even though Tine had tumbled everything some items were still a bit damp. Lunch and at last we were ready for Bryce Canyon. Paul had moved us to the other room and it was much nicer, quiet and with a nice view over the lake. You could also see that it was a newer building. Went to Bryce Canyon and hiked down to Queens Garden - a very steep and hot path but very, very nice. At the bottom there was a little shade and we sat down and enjoyed the quiet. Exciting to walk between Hoodoos and
other formations. Most of the rock formations are red, red, red but some parts of the sandstone is multicolored due to gas and oil seeping into the stone. Impressive and very beautiful all of it. The altitude is about 8500 feet (divide by 3) give or take a little which doesn’t do much for your breathing going uphill due to the lack of oxygen - thank god we have that excuse.
Drove to other points of interest but no more hiking today. Went back to the motel and enjoyed sitting in the evening sun on the outside corridor of our motel together with other guests who turned out to be from Sweden. We find that there are Frenchmen and Danes everywhere which means that we have to be careful about what we say and comment on - that is not good because it takes a bit of the fun away - we enjoy being able to comment on our fellow travelers. Had dinner at the motel - not much to write home about. Tenaya Lodge we miss you. Eskil had an evening swim before bed.

Paul got up at 5.30 am to get a sunrise view over
Bryce Canyon - unfortunately, it was overcast. A pity. Tine didn’t join him (which she later was happy about) because she didn’t like to leave the kids alone. And it was a disappointing experience, too bad. Again Bryce Canyon was on the program - Paul wanted to make another hike but the kids were not up to it. They found that they had sort of seen it yesterday. We drove through the whole valley and looked at all there was to see, and after that Paul drove us home and went for a short hike by himself. Eskil and Tine went stone hunting in the ‘Old Town’ across the street and found some petrified wood and sandstone a.o. Eskil received a lot of compliments for his choices and was told that if he hadn’t found them himself in the piles they would have been up to 5 times as expensive - that made him a bit taller.
Enjoyed the evening sun again before heading to Bryce canyon lodge for dinner. This time we had a different waiter and that helped on the information level as well as the service level. 3 of us just wanted the soup and salad
bar and the children had an ice cream for dessert.

Time to pack and get started. We wanted an early start because we had a fairly long ride. But as it turned out a very beautiful one.
