April 21: We started our day early. Me at 5:30 am and Jan at 6:00 am. We had bedding to pack and I needed to do lots of outside chores to secure the adobe. Even with our early start it took quite a bit of time to make sure all was settled in its place and good for the next 11 months. Feels really good to have the roof on the living area (walls were up on this addition last year), and a new utility room. Next year no major projects needed. We took photos of us on our property and headed to Canyon Café to have breakfast, and said good bye to Susan, our waitress who said she will miss us. We headed to the Valley of Fire, beautiful red Rock landscape, all intricately carved ... read more

SEPTEMBER 9, 2014 I made it through the hurricane okay, although the remnants of it provided some fairly brisk rainfall between Beaver and St George. Interstate 15 was open through Arizona, but still closed near Moapa, NV where those cars floated off. We all got detoured off through Loganville and Overton and had to make our way onward as best we could. There were several places between Mesquite, NV and the detour where the interstate was flooded. Helluva rainstorm. I am glad I didn’t get stuck in it down at Robbers Roost, but am disappointed that I did not see the hideout. Perhaps I can try again sometime when there is no hurricane. Am spending the night in Kingman at the Best Western King’s Inn. Nice enough room for $111.15. The whole place is being remodeled, ... read more

Stayed at a 60 year old Howard Johnsons right on Route 66. You do not get much comfort for $55. Remember the train scene in My Cousin Vinnie? " Does this train always come through here at 3 in the morning? No sir it was late this morning, it normally comes through at 2" At least 3 or 4 train visits that rumbled our room like a light quake between midnight and 5. But I loved it! Breakfast at a small cafe/ bakery, Brandy' s. An episode of Diners Driveins and Dives was filmed there. Nice breakfast, certainly we would recommend it! Headed North out of Flagstaff on the 89 , for Tuba City. Kathie Zeilstra had told us it was a must see. We stopped at a Navaho trading center, their history and culture is ... read more

20th to 22nd April We've gone through Idaho and made it to Beaver, stopping at Uintah along the way. This was where I first saw snow! The day before arriving, we drove through a torrential rain storm to discover that we had narrowly missed a tornado! After packing our bags and struggling to place them in the SUV, was when the snow started falling. What a great experience! Looks good, but I'm not really keen on the wet, cold part. So, this evening we landed in Beaver - best known for having the best drinking water in the US of A - just ask them! It is about 4 degrees C here. Brrr. We hope you like the happy snaps.... read more
