Greetings from San Angelo State Park, ya’ll. We got in about 9:30 last night. Figured out the lock on the night gate. Wandered around til we found site #3. Turned off the engine and turned into bed and slept for a good 11 hours. Now I sit at a metal picnic table in an old, run down, rotting park under a steel gray sky with a slight breeze and distant traffic noise. We’re the only ones here, and it all feels to me like a scene out of a creepy post apocalyptic movie, as if Sally and I are the last ones on Earth. Except for the distant traffic noise. I had a shower, though the drain backed up and flooded the entire men’s bathroom. Sally made coffee, though Betty’s shore power system is only half ... read more

A little less of a drive today from Amarillo to San Angelo. We saw absolutely no rain, but lots of flat land. We definitely back in Texas. We both agree we are tired of sightseeing, setting up camp, and driving. We even think the dogs are ready to get home to their own back yard.... read more

Just 4 weeks to go and then I'll be out in the Guadalupe mountains for a week. Looking forward to really pushing the limits on this one, clocking in a lot of trail mileage, and amping up the off trail guts. My buddies Zach and Brandon will be shipping out with me on the 1st of June. Planning on a lot of flat, open country, and tackling most peaks, including: Guadalupe, El Capitan, Shumard and Bush mountain. It's going to be killer. Training every day for the 60 miles of trek, feeling great. ... read more

1996 It was the first year my dad, Robert and I headed out for some serious adjusting! Our first storm was a windstorm in San Jose, CA. Robert and I left San Angelo, TX in December with three cats in tow. We had to leave Velcro home because she was constantly attacking Luke and Leia. So in our Hundai Sonata we traveled cross country to go live with my parents for the duration of this storm. When we got to California, Robert and I asked my mom to shave Q-Tip because his hair had been driving both Robert and I insane for the entire drive from Texas. So Q-Tip's first experience with grandma was this evil woman who threw him into a tub and got him wet and then shaved all his hair off! Poor kitty! ... read more

The summer after that year at Mills in Oakland I moved back home to work at Ft. Ord. Trying to get my feet wet in the military lifestyle, to determine if this is what i wanted for the rest of my life as I had really enjoyed AFROTC at Cal Berkeley when I was at Mills. While there working I met the man who was to become my husband. During the course of the summer we decided I would move to San Angelo, TX to continue my schooling, since it was a lot cheaper to live in TX than CA and my parents had flaked on paying for my schooling.... read more

Biking/Camping trip to Texas 2009 This is a trip that we first took in 1990 and have returned untold times including 3 times during the last 6 years. Almost every time, our objective is Seminole Canyon State Historical Park west of San Antonio and up against the Rio Grande. From the first time that we saw it, it became one of our favourite spots in the world (well the parts of the world that we know anyway.) We have criss crossed Texas and camped in all of its regions many times. This may be our last trip to Texas so it is not likely that we will “explore” many new locations this time. We are returning to “tried and true” campsites and spending more time. We left on Saturday April 18 2009 to spend our first ... read more

After waking up at Waldorf we decided not to park again on a slant as we roll to that side and sleep uncomfortably. We did some almost forgotten shopping and drove down to the Concho River where we did our morning constitutional. Before long we were head into a group of 5-K runners. They did not want to give up the sidewalk so we chose another route that brought us through the historic part of town. Today mostly antique shops the old town is still busy. The facades of the buildings remain oldwest, and the insides stil awit customers. We worked our way around and back to the river just in time for the last of the runners which were mostly women and children strolling along. The day past as we sat. The river is calm ... read more
